Thanks also..... always was interested in history and DCP has some great DC history threads...

Mebbe I should add blogging to my post-retirement list.... First article will be the 75th Anniversary of Gettysburg Battle celebration (1938). Lot of corps in the parade and couple of YT vids of the parades. Only live an hour away and info is spotty so.......

There was no "circuit" so to speak out here until the late 70's. MBI did mostly shows and parades through Parade Specialists, Inc. out of Wisconsin run by Annie Mixdorff - with the original attempt to go to DCA in '73..They did RCA from 74 & 75.. In '76 there wasn't much of a corps to compete with..'77 saw the advent of MSA (Midstates Senior Association) with Brass, '76, Govies, Spirit of St. Loius and Chicago Connection. St Louis never got to the field, and due to that, Brass had set into the budget that year a trip to St. Louis - with that show/trip falling through, the management asked the membership about the idea of making a trip to DCA instead. MBI made a 2 year entry into ICA in '83 and '84, but from our point of view, it wan't much different treatment than we received from DCA.. In '85 - they decided to go back to DCA. The rest, shall we say - is history.

MSA only lasted through 79 - and MBI, '76 and Govies were brought into DCM as a separate division in 1980 or 81 (I wasn't marching those two years), and that division stayed viable with a few new corps coming and going until "the experiment" when that OTHER circuit decided to 'take their ball and go home' in 2004.

I'm extremely grateful to my brothers and sisters in this part of the world who NEVER gave up the idea of being part of the activity on a scale that would have a lot to do with how part-time / weekend drum corps stayed competitive and relevant in the Midwest and elswewhere.

The vision of a lot of them could better serve the future for the rest of the all-age activity if - once again, the established heirarchy could see beyond the size of the "region' they serve.. The idea of that regional expense bias fear needs to be overcome by the brainstorming of ideas of the other groups - meetings and conferences should be easy to do in today's world of technology.

There are people busting their humps to start new groups and keep existing newer entries viable.. Marketing 101 is more important now than at any other time in the evolution of the activity..RCA and ICA had the right ideas, but maybe not always the best circumstances..it's time for all to get some ideas to get together and either put up or shut up - :soapbox:

sorry for the rant guys and gals..Waiting for the summer schedule is just too frustrating!!

See y'all in Rochacha !!!

Pat

Now I'm a bit OT again sorry....Fran & JimFXB I highly recommend it. 80,000 people read my last show rvw...(Glendora-SCV/BD-2014) and 110,000 have stopped by in the last 90 days ----we haven't even hit the season....No not much $ in it, but the satisfaction comes from doing what I love. Happy to help no charge if you guys want to get started.

-Much humility, love and respect to all readers. - Tapper

Westshore last did RCA Championships in 76 and did some RCA shows in 77. Then we came in 10th at DCA in 77 for full membership and didn't have to worry about filling in the schedule with RCA. But we did sponsor an RCA show in 77 or 78 as part of RCA membership rules (DCA had the same thing IIRC).

1976 Hershey Chocolatiers/York White Roses combo corps (went by White Roses IIRC) was at RCA Championships at Erie. Only time they ever beat anyone.
