High Country Brass Drum and Bugle Corps

Recommended Posts

Dear Members, Alumni, Friends and Fans of High Country Brass and 5280 Brass Band:

As President of the High Country Performing Arts Association Board of Directors, it is with deepest regrets that I announce that the Board has voted to close HCPAA and all of it operations. HCPAA is the parent organization of High Country Brass Drum and Bugle Corps and 5280 Brass Band.

Be assured that we did not arrive at this decision lightly, but considered and explored many other possibilities, before making this final decision. With rising costs and ever decreasing membership numbers, the Board of Directors feels that it is fiscally responsible to cease operations now before the organization can no longer meet its financial responsibilities.

High Country Brass was formed in 2004 by a small group of dedicated drum and bugle corps fans. Over the years, HCB grew to be a competitive Drum Corps Associates Class A corps. In addition to performing locally at Drums Along the Rockies nearly every year, the Corps traveled for competitions in Denton, Texas; St. Paul and St. Peter, Minnesota three times; and to DCA finals four times (once in Annapolis, Maryland, and three times in Rochester, New York). At its peak in 2013, HCB fielded a Corps of more than 50 members, and earned our highest score ever in DCA Class A competition.

Created in 2014 as a small performing ensemble consisting of current members and alumni of HCB, 5280 Brass band offered a local and affordable alternative to the full Drum Corps experience. During its short tenure, 5280 performed for the Colorado Outlaws Lacrosse, the Brass Band Festival in Parker, and the Wild Bill reenactment show at the Buffalo Bills days in Golden.

Over the past years, the HCPAA organization has brought together musicians and performers from all walks of life, creating long lasting friendships and performing for local and distant audiences alike.

Thank you to everyone who has ever been involved with High Country Brass and 5280 Brass, including our musician and performing members, talented staff, volunteers, generous family and friends, and of course, our audience members. We could not have made it as far as we did without you.

HCPAA will begin immediately to take the necessary steps to dissolve the organization. All remaining assets will be distributed to a similar qualified 501©(3) as required by the by-laws of HCPAA, the state of Colorado, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Our current assets include drum and bugle corps equipment, including “G” bugles, marching drums, percussion instruments, color guard uniforms and equipment, marching uniforms, and other drum corps equipment, including the HCB trailer. A complete list of equipment is available.

If you are interested in purchasing any or all of our equipment, or if you are an authorized representative of a similar eligible 501©(3) organization and are in need of any equipment, please contact me via email at equipment@highcountrybrass.org by June 30th, 2015.

Sincerely,

David Truax

President

Board of Directors

Sorry to hear this. I know from experience how difficult it can be to start and sustain a new corps. Kudos on doing it responsibility, though.

What a shame. I hope those assets find a good home.

Really sad to read this today. I am sure it was a difficult decision. Really enjoyed seeing the corps several times over the years!
