2016 Prediction Thread

Off to the races...

1. Devils...the safe choice but I think the 3-peat is imminent

2. Cadets...back in contention with a strong program and powerhouse captions

3. Crown...likely the crowd favorite but percussion continues to drag

4. Bluecoats...would so love to see a title but wondering about variety in the music book

5. Blue Knights...I'll buy the hype, thought they made a real jump in quality and poise last year

6. Cavaliers...bouncing back with a refocused program

7. SCV...hoping there will be some spice to what seems like a generic show

8. Phantom...was initially thinking higher but maybe a learning year for the new staff

9. Blue Stars...loved them last year and think they will surprise

10. Madison...always a favorite but not sure about success with a re-tread show

11. Boston...easily could be wrong about this, just too many good corps in the bottom six

12. Academy...my Cinderella pick, the one group bringing the fun back to drum corps

13. Crossmen...they probably won't stumble but curious to hear how the all-original book shakes out

14. Troopers

15. Oregon

16. Spirit

17. Colts

18. Mandarins

19. Pacific Crest

20. Cascades

I don't think Madison's show will be a retread from the past. But, then again who knows.

It's not a retread at all.

1st: BD They just make their shows reflect the judges' sheets so well they win, regardless of emotional flaws
2nd: Bluecoats Pushing BD, and everyone else
3rd: Crown Clean and talented, not enough risk taking yet
4th: Cadets The best 4th pace corps of all time second year in a row, see above, show snippets are impressive
5th: Blue Knights On to something, really digging the online show snippets
6th: Santa Clara Vanguard Not yet ready creatively or with brass
7th: Madison KC Michaels is the ####, digging the snippets
8th: Boston Great show last year, better talent this year
9th: Cavies Brass an issue and design still floundering
10th: Phantom Tired, and more tired
11th: Blue Stars Good
12th: Troop A few more GE connections than Crossmen, current snippets show promise
13th: Crossmen Like last year, meh, too much safe TX band influence
14th: Academy Great show, fun like last year, you just wish the talent and depth was better
15th: OC Major improvements, esp guard
16th: Mandarins Great percussion and improving brass, guard, and overall design
17th: Crest Good, solid moments, depth not there yet
18th: Colts Missed some opportunities the past few years that hurt them now
19th: Cades Improving, staff gets excellence

20th: Genesis making their way up, could be higher

21st: Vanguard Cadets So well designed for talent level
22nd: SOA Really misguided by alumni, recent snippets are rough, arrangements weak
23nd: BDB impressive for 15 year olds
24th: Spartans some clever moments and a strong guard
25th: Legends making some improvements

Why? I don't understand why people say they have to be a top 5 group. I could see them in 7th. I'm no Madison honk and didn't like last year's show but it was a step up so what's saying they can't get 6th? Phantom went back and forth with BK what says they can't be 6th? Cavies were once a dominant force what says they can't be 6th. BK could easily get 8th or 9th. Once they start moving and playing as much as the top 5 I will put them up there but for now they stay out IMO.

BK has some staff who marched Crown 2009- 2012 and they are claiming their drill is harder than when they marched, BK is definitely moving a little bit this year!

Bluecoats have caught my attention especially with their Pat Matheny stuff, and I've heard rumors about some very interesting uniform ideas. Gonna be an interesting year for the all the Blue groups. But I can't wait to see what everyone else has to offer too. Gonna be a great season of drum corps!

I'll believe it when I see it. The last 2 years have been dance to your dot then play. And I'm not taking anything away because it clearly is working for them but IMO (which means nothing to anyone) it's boring and not as good as those trying to say Cadets it. (Fast clean drill with alot of notes)
