Chief Guns Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 it would be interesting to have a scoring system where there is no "number" -- just ranks and spreads. 1. Purple 2. Green -.5 3. Blue -1.1 etc... Hmmmm you could be on to something here. Would be cool to see a trial run at one of the TOC shows just to see how it works. Quote

AHHHHH but see now, when i saw this the 1st thing i thought of was , use a color that depicts the highest score, spot it here and there only, send a subliminal message......lol....See one can always figure a way out, or to the top..lol 1 Quote

If it's all about spreads and rankings, why do we continue the whole farce about "the number" ? No one believes it's real anyway. Edited July 14, 2015 by corpsband 1 Quote
Tobias Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 High scores at finals are usually due to lack of competition and big gaps in tiers, so Id expect the scores to be lower if there all remain close And from what Im seeing, they are all bunched because no one is that great, most these top shows have major performance and design issues right now Not sure where you buy your eyeglasses, but the Top 5 this season is sensational. 1 Quote
3PoC Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Looking at the numbers management issues from MO ToC show last night, I'm starting to think that allowing decimal places in sub-captions might be the best way to rate groups that are bunched up tightly. There are not enough integers to fit a clump of groups fairly. Quote
cowtown Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Not sure where you buy your eyeglasses, but the Top 5 this season is sensational. Glad you like it, I’ve only been to 3 live shows this year, most recent TOC at DeKalb and it seems a down year in performance and design. Dekalb was 7/12 last year and it looks like it was scored higher (87.6 to 78) vs 2015 (83.8 to 74) so I’m in agreement with the judges, 2015’s winner BD would have been 5th last year Curious, how many show have you seen live this year? My take is all based on live shows Only asking because the I’m wondering if people watching on-line have a different take than live Quote

Numbers are only just that numbers. example above.....lol Edited July 14, 2015 by GUARDLING Quote
BRASSO Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) . I honestly believe if Felliniesque would have been BD's first championship, that show would have been loved by all. But it was #16. So people still didn't like it. I never met Drum Corps fans that agree on everything. The notion that if BD won their 1st Championship last season ( 2014 ), that ..." that show would have been loved by all" is ridiculous. As a matter of fact, my assessment was that FAR more fans liked last year's DCI Title winning BD show " Fellinisque " , than their NON DCI Title winning several shows of 2013 " reRite of Spring ", or 2008 " Constantly Risking Absurdity ". My assessment is that most non afiliated fans liking or not liking of a show is mostly unrelated to placement and scores. ( this does not mean that fans of other Corps not named BD can't be found in jealous mode on occasion, though. ) Edited July 14, 2015 by BRASSO Quote
eightyonepointthree Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 The only way you see all 5 corps score that high is by allowing judges to tie subcaptions, which is frowned upon. That would allow them room near the top. Otherwise, you have to manage numbers to give room at the top. Most judging communities like to use the numbers to "rank" rather than "rate. Quote
N.E. Brigand Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I’ve only been to 3 live shows this year I think many DCP posters would consider themselves lucky to "only" have attended three shows--especially before July was half over! Quote
