Was watching some old shows (1998, 1985, 1987 Cadets, etc) and there are so many tasty and subtle mezzopiano ensemble moments. It seems like the activity has gone away from that...we got a lot of forte runs building into fff impact chords. Anyone else notice this? Not every corps has to be Star 1993 but yea...

I am finding this a very interesting read.

That the environment of LOS (size, echo, largely tiered seating) determines dynamics seems logical. Instrumentation within the hornline has also shifted while at LOS (e.g., more tubas.)

Crown has done some amazing things demonstrating brass mastery the past few years. They recieved a certain acclaim that said "Hey, they are the only corps that can do this, and do that." Not true, obviously. But now, I think we are seeing other corps do a predictable "Now Watch THIS!" display. I love it!

Forte is a dynamic.

It sure is, but the question was about dynamics, plural.
