Phantom Regiment 2016

Recommended Posts

Adams Marching Brass - Saw it two ? years ago at Midwest, played the marching trumpet last year @ Midwest. My opinion: What I played wasn't much better than Jupiter. Thin feel, both the horn and the sound. I remember the valves having metal caps and they would "bounce" when you released a valve. However, I don't think Adams will put out a sub par instrument with their name on it. Reputation is worth more than a few dollars from the marching arena. I hope that the quality has went up, as these were still demos.

As far as Phantom, folks, we have to get out of the rut we've been in for the last few years. Pick a design team and let them design. Innovative yet classic. The Richard Einhorn - Voices of Light/Passion of Joan of Arc has a very PR sound to it. What about more Wagner?(There's more than Elsa's and Der Ring)

As much as I'd love to hear New World again, I was there the first time and don't want that memory to be touched.

Best of luck to all the corps and design teams as 2016 looms around the corner. Entertain and dazzle us.

I thought the Adams marching tuba was one of the best playing tubas at DCI finals this year. It had a true tuba sound, was responsive throughout, and rather lightweight. The Kanstul was also a great horn, but the setup of the 4 valve cluster was too close to my face to be comfortable.

I'll be looking forward to what sound differences Phantom will have this coming season!

Wow, not a big fan of Don Hill, but the Will Pitts decision is puzzling to me. His marching band stuff is ok, but I didn't enjoy what he did for Spirit, and if that's any indicator of his DCI arranging abilities, I'm worried for PR. Of course someone will say his Spirit stuff was due to what he was told to do, but then again, that's what some argued about Don Hill's music.

Not having a ton of faith for PR with all the changes yet again.

I can tell you that there are some great, really interesting conversations happening between the entire music design team. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of them.

On one hand I'm disappointed that PR has once again shown that they aren't willing to go outside of their 'network' for the best talent available.

On the other hand, I think there is potential that this could be a very very good thing. I actually liked a lot of what he wrote for spirit last year, especially the ballad. The show was a hot mess still, but there were some good things going on with the brass arrangement. He is a young writer, and if he is this talented in his 20's I'm excited to see what he will grow in to. I was crossing my fingers for Frank Sullivan, even though I know that would never happen, but this MIGHT be a home run for phantom in the long run. He chose and fell in love with phantom regiment for the same reasons many of us have. I have high hopes that he will make phantom sound like phantom again, and I'd bet money that this will be an upgrade over Hill.

Time will tell

Congrats to Will!!! I have a ton of respect for him as a person and an educator. For the few folks that say this was a"safe" decision.......I guess the same could have been said about JD Shaw and we all know how that turned out. As for going outside the organization.... Don Hill had a very respectable run with the Regiment and I personally wish him the all the best in his future endeavors and thank him for what he did for the Regiment....however, folks weren't satisfied with that decision either! Looks like the corps is ###### if they do and ###### if they don't. It will be exciting to see what Will brings to the table and offer him a hearty WELCOME ABOARD/WELCOME BACK!!!! Who better to bring back that Phantom sound than someone who understands it from the inside out? Anxiously awaiting the 2016 show announcement.
