xandandl
Maybe someone addressed this already but was there an indoor guard or drum show with slides or did Bluecoats come up with the slides by themselves? Regardless, what a great & creative idea!!! Go back more than five years to Blue Knights indoor percussion did a show based on Parkour with Taylor Townsend (former Cavie alum and staffer) as the skills specialist. Many of the same sliding, off angle climbing and hanging, and playing while sliding was used in that show. (Taylor is more known for his international French horn accomplishments.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour
mingusmonk
If they can find ways to continually improve they will have a great shot at a gold medal this year. My only fear is that they peak too early. Two significant changes went in last night. More in the works. The staff pushes themselves hard, being inspired by the members. MikeRapp
I'll agree with you if you can show me where in the judging sheets it shows that the judges reward "creativity, risk, and artistry" over a show following a similar formula to the two years prior. Show me where in the sheets it says that corps aren't rewarded as much for being "predictable" I think you're allowing your feelings towards a show cloud your judgment. Trust me, I love SCV's show more than anyone else's this year, heck I think I might even like Bloo's show more than BD's at its current state, but I just can't see BD finishing below 2nd this year with that monster of a show they have. But of course this is all speculation until August. I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong So that begs the question: If BD fielded Ink again this year, exactly as they did it last year, do you think it would medal? Not saying it should or shouldn't, I'm asking if you think the judges would reward it in the same manner.

Not saying it should or shouldn't, I'm asking if you think the judges would reward it in the same manner. It used a different judging system I believe (tic system), but SCV came out with pretty much the same show in 1988 and 1989. In 1988 they came in 2nd. In 1989, they came in 1st. Unfortunately there's no such example for a more modern era. I'm of the opinion that the judges reward what's on the field and compares it to other corps from the same year. Of course, BD would never field the same show in two consecutive years, they would probably lose members for doing such a thing.

Jurassic Lancer
I have mentioned this before, but don't worry about the show growing stale. The design team has planned from the very beginning additions / changes as the season progresses.
dcicolts
Bluecoats Snapchat has videos of the slide.... Looks much more steep from the top of it than the stands!
Fred Windish
Finally watched full 2016 Bluecoats on YouTube. They were not in uniform. I did enjoy it! The music sounds strong and the guard is excellent. A very easy show to like, will place high in Indy. But the jogging. Lots of jogging from place to place! Probably not the correct term for that movement, but it was excessive. Looks fun, is different, and probably all other corps do it in lesser amount, but . . . . . I wouldn't really like to see more than a couple corps motor around like that in the same show. Could lose the novelty that makes it all work this season. Too much of a good thing is . . . . . well, you know.
