Given that the spliced version without the frack was definitely issued in 1989, when was the unedited version first sold?

I've always felt the recordings were meant to record, for posterity, THE ACTUAL EVENTS THAT HAPPENED! It's not a "DCI Finals Week's Greatest Hits" recording. It's a recording of what happened on Finals night. If you don't want something ugly on there... nail your performance.

Yes, that's one debate: are the recordings meant to be journalism or entertainment?

2008: a one minute-14 second segment of the performance of the Phantom Regiment

2011:
A portion of the video during the Madison Scouts performance is blacked out. The audio of the performance remains fully intact during the final two minutes of the production.

2012:
The Cadets: 6 seconds of video and audio of unlicensed, pre-recorded material has been removed
The Cadets: 31 seconds of audio of unlicensed, pre-recorded material has been muted. The video of this segment is provided in its entirety.
Spirit of Atlanta: 19 seconds of video and audio of unlicensed, pre-recorded material has been removed.

2013:
Approximately 25 seconds of poetry has been omitted from the Boston Crusader's performance.

2015:
 Blue Devils: approximately 60 seconds of the corps’ performance, including a pre-recorded audio segment, has been omitted
 Blue Knights: approximately 47 seconds of pre-recorded audio has been omitted
 Phantom Regiment: approximately 47 seconds of pre-recorded audio has been omitted
 The Cavaliers: approximately 2 minutes and 25 seconds of corps' performance has been omitted.

2016:
The Cavaliers: Approximately 30 seconds of pre-recorded audio has been removed
The Academy: Approximately 45 seconds of corps' performance has been omitted
Due to copyright compliance considerations, the “jingles” segment of The Cavaliers had to be edited.
Due to copyright compliance considerations the song title Corpse Bride for The Academy had to be edited out of the program.

2017:
Blue Devils – 0:42 has been omitted ("Stay (from 'Interstellar')”)
The Cavaliers – 2:02 has been omitted ("On the Nature of Daylight," "The Sun's Gone Dim")
Boston Crusaders – 2:42 has been omitted ("Wicked Game")
