DrumManTx
Started watching last year when I was starting to get burned out on marching band/drum corps. Tried indoor percussion a few times.......I just can't seem to get into it which is weird considering I'm a percussionist. There's something about the guard shows that absolutely enamors me, the amount of emotional content and beautiful movement is just entrancing. Of what I've seen this year in Scholastic World, find Flanagan incredibly gorgeous, and Tarpon is very impressive as well. Love the whole understand "New York New York" thing throughout. I was a percussionist in high school back in......I still drum from time to time on a cajon and other things like that. It's harder for me to get into indoor lines as well. I don't like the whole space suit look they have and sometimes the shows go on for too long in trying to find a theme out of a bunch of diddle ramming. Warren Central, I'm guessing this is part-social justice show, part kinky swing show (just joking about that second one). They don't have the guy narrating this year which is a plus. Has some great moments. Fenix, show based off the French tight rope walker that walked the NY skyline perhaps? Ayala, wall paper camo, cool effect Lexus, Bonnie and Clyde Black Crown, bringin' back the Shosta Onyx, apparently last year was the end of their "Blue Bird" years, so this is a different style. Maybe that's why they're scoring points lower than SCV? I don't know, but I welcome the change, even if it's mostly seen in music and drill/staging. This one even has somewhat of a flag feature. Sac, always different from year to year. Edited March 29, 2016 by c.l.
c.l.
First Flight, cut off at end Arcadia WGI Zone not available anymore. Guess it was inevitable. There are a few inevitables in the color guard world: A guard will use On the Nature of Daylight/This Bitter Earth, if Adele comes out with a new album you'll hear it used, hairography/hair slinging in SW and copyright issues. c.l.
Probably the last post on this, unless we don't see shows for awhile or people shell out to the web cast (have not been hearing good things about prelims today with it cutting out, but that may change tomorrow). Here we have a group in the top 5 who didn't medal in open class last year, but their peers from last year that beat them barely make prelims or not make it. I've never heard of North East high school, have they been to WGI before?
