Greatest Storytale Ending in DCI History

Recommended Posts

Maybe Tony Schlechta was still working behind the scenes.

No. 'Can't blame Tony for these 3 Corps DQ's... although I do get your quip regarding Tony in the Pre DCI years, and his politics useage for several years at the VFW Nationals Championships that he administered. ( haha!)

The comment from Channel 3 above about the portrayal of Judas's character in plays being played by a" black actor" as being " racist" if caste with a" black actor", is as ludicrous as having all the Roman slaves in all the plays and movies throughout the history of theatre being caste with " white actors". As we know from our history, during the time of Judas, the Roman Empire's southern borders extended to much of northern Africa, from the Mediterranean, all the way over to Egypt, and down the Nile. While the Romans got their slaves from conquered northern areas of Europe's Continent,(and thus were" white" slaves) we know that at least 30% of the slaves during Judas time, were from the Continent of Africa, and thus were " black ". In all the Play depictions prior to the 20th century however, the slaves in these Plays ( minor roles in the Play ) were almost exclusively played by " white actors "..(even when the major role in the depiction of Judas 's character might be played by a " black " actor) But so what ? Nobody as far as i know had any issues with " white actors " always playing the role of the captured, humiliated, and exploited slaves in all these plays, despite its highly dubious historical context. People sometimes see " racism " in silly fictional play areas where they is no inherent " racism "present and yet oftentimes miss REAL issues of " racism " that is being played out right over their shoulder in real life.

SCV's clever ending to make the Phantom of the Opera " disappear " in his chair at the conclusion of their show was a classic storytale ending moment in DCI, imo.

I am not aware. What tragedy befell SCV in spring 1999?

In Spring of 1999 two Vanguard drummers were in a car accident that took the life of bass drummer Art Velarde and seriously injured the snare drummer Ray Velarde. IIRC there is a point in SCV's drill that year (big push in the ballad maybe?) where Myron wrote a stylized "AV" in the drill as a memorial, and SCV wore stars with a black 'V' in the middle as a tribute
