2015 vs. 2016 - Daily Year over Year Comparisons

Recommended Posts

July 12, 2016 -- July 7, 2015

2016 - Biggest positive movement in score from Colts (+3.75), moving them up one spot to #15. The only negative movement in score was from Colt Cadets (-0.30), who also had the largest decrease yesterday. The most significant movement in standings was for Legends who moved up 3 spots to #25.

2015 - Several corps saw large upward movement in scores this time last year with The Academy leading the way (+4.00). Troopers took a bit of a hit with a decrease of 1.45. These scores did not lead to a great deal of movement in the rankings, though. Like this year, Legends moved the most (+3) to #24. Blue Saints entered competition for the first time, joining the ranks at #41.

Year over Year - Jersey Surf continues to extend its lead in the "most improved" category from 2015 to 2016. Currently position at #20, if the season ended today, Jersey Surf would be 8 places ahead of its 2015 finish. The corps showing the greatest potential decrease of position is River City Rhythm, currently positioned at #40 after finishing last year at #31. They have not performed since July 6 and will not return to action until July 16 in Rochester, MN. Although some of the names have changed, the exact same number of corps have competed so far this season (43) as this time last season. Those entering the field in 2016 but not 2015 (at this time of the season) are The Battalion (#33), Shadow (#35), and Heat Wave (#41). Those corps who competed in 2015 but have not competed in 2016 are Eruption, Blue Saints, and Racine Scouts.

2016 - Had a rain out so there is only one show to report on. Biggest positive movement in score from The Cavaliers (+1.75) and no negative movement from any performing corps. There was very little movement in the placements with only Santa Clara Vanguard and Carolina Crown swapping the #4 and #5 spots.

2015 - There was a rain out at the same time last year although with two shows still running, there's a bit more to mention. Louisiana Stars debuted in #31. Pacific Crest saw a large increase in score (+4.30), moving them up to spots to #16. Three corps saw small score decreases (Crossmen, The Academy, Cascades). The most significant change in placement came for Genesis (+5), moving to #25.

Year over Year - Jersey Surf continues to extend its lead in the "most improved" category from 2015 to 2016. Currently position at #20, if the season ended today, Jersey Surf would be 8 places ahead of its 2015 finish. The corps showing the greatest potential decrease of position is River City Rhythm, currently positioned at #41 after finishing last year at #31. They have not performed since July 6 and will not return to action until July 15 in Rochester, MN. There is a very large separation between the #6 and #7 corps in both years on this date (4.1 in 2016; 3.2 in 2015). Have we established a top 6 already?

Sadly, I think so, yes. And a lock for 7th, as well, even though spreads might not show that day-to-day. I think the top 6 is set, and that Phantom is solidly in 7th, and then its a battle for 8-definitely 11 maybe 12-14 or so. I don't want to go so far to say that we'll have a 3-peat top 12 (has that ever happened?) But I'm getting close to thinking that. We'll know more soon. Just over a week until San Antonio.

2016 - Biggest positive movement in score from Pacific Crest (+3.20) and Mandarins (+3.00) and only one slight negative movement in score for Colts (-0.20). The most significant movement in placement came for Genesis and Pioneer, both changing by +3 spots after four days away from competition. All eyes should be on Madison Scouts tonight. In their last competition (7/10), they improved by over 4 points and have now had 5 days to prepare for tonight's match-up. Will Crossmen be able to hold onto the #8 spot or will Madison take it back? Or perhaps it will be the Blue Knights who held the spot back on July 9. A strikethrough has been added through the date of last score for corps that are not scheduled to appear in any more shows. Southwind and Louisiana Stars will make their debut tonight in Huntsville, AL.

Corps debuts remaining: Guardians (7/21), Les Stentors (7/23)

Corps seasons complete: Columbians (7/9), The Battalion (7/9), Thunder (7/9)

2015 - Two corps improved by more than 3 points: Troopers (+4.95) and Santa Clara Vanguard (+3.30). There were also three corps going down in score, Legends most significantly (-0.60). The most significant movement on the placement side came from Troopers (+4).

Year over Year - Jersey Surf continues its lead in the "most improved" category from 2015 to 2016. Currently position at #20, if the season ended today, Jersey Surf would be 8 places ahead of its 2015 finish. The corps showing the greatest potential decrease of position is River City Rhythm, currently positioned at #40 after finishing last year at #31. They have not performed since July 6 but return to action tonight in Rochester, MN.

July 15, 2016 -- July 10, 2015

2016 - This battle for #8 went to a corps I didn't mention yesterday, Blue Stars. In a tight night, Blue Stars edged Madison Scouts and Blue Knights in head to head competition while Crossmen ended up falling to #11 based on a score in another location. We won't see all four corps together in the same show until July 23 in San Antonio. There were a lot of big positive movements in score last night with six corps increasing by 3 or more points. Leading the way was River City Rhythm who returned to competition after 9 days off with an increase of +7.30 points and 6 spots in the rankings to #34. Louisiana Stars and Southwind made their debuts at #32 and #38 respectively. The most significant negative movement in score came for Impulse (-1.05), a bit of a surprise with 12 days since their last competition. Impulse (-5) had the largest negative movement in placement as a result.

Tonight's a big night of competition with only 1 corps of the current top 25 not in action (Cascades). Questions to be answered in the Top 12: Will The Cavaliers be able to pass Santa Clara Vanguard? Will Blue Stars hold off Madison Scouts to maintain the #8 spot? After 5 days off, where will Carolina Crown reemerge relative to The Cadets?

Corps debuts remaining: Guardians (7/21), Les Stentors (7/23)

Corps seasons complete: Columbians (7/9), The Battalion (7/9), Thunder (7/9)

2015 - Three corps improved by more than 3 points: Watchmen (+6.70), Golden Empire (+6.60), and Mandarins (+5.70). The most significant movement on the placement side came from Golden Empire (+6).

Year over Year - Jersey Surf continues its lead in the "most improved" category from 2015 to 2016, although that lead was cut last night by a bit. Currently positioned at #22, if the season ended today, Jersey Surf would be 6 places ahead of its 2015 finish. The corps showing the greatest potential decrease of position is Spartans, currently positioned at #30 after finishing last year at #23. They have not performed since July 5 and will not return to action until July 23.
