40 Years Ago Last Night..June 27, 1976

Recommended Posts

It was one of the biggest surprises in DCI history.....

Watertown, WI

Marquis--73.45

Phantom Regiment--72.85

Marquis went on to take 16th at DCI, while Phantom was 4th.

To put it in perspective.....it would be like last year's Vanguard Cadets (16th) beating The Cadets (4th).

Marquis did win the NT Open that year too. I remember teasing PR's former timp soloist who came back to our corps to teach in 1976.

Yeah, Keith, Marquis had their best corps in '75 and '76.

Marquis also beat the Blue Stars (9th at DCI) and the Guardsmen (12th at DCI) early in the season, as well as once getting to within 1-point of the Cavaliers (7th).

Wow That was one stunner for sure. But I do remember when I was in a Corps named the Asbury Park Hurricanes. (a nesr bottom States Corps in New Jersey field completion. ) We beat the Garfield Cadets in a PARADE once back in the early '60's. Oh and yes, the Parade was in Asbury Park. But, I am sure that had nothing to do with it. :peek:
