1956OPR
8th. Well, we think we know from post 1738, on p.174, and 1769, on p.177, that the percussion rankings for the San Antonio show were 1. Bluecoats 2. SCV 3. Cadets ( all 3 within .15 of each other) and 8. Blue Knights. Who else will contribute? DCP wants to know too and we want to know now. Let's have a Recap Rebuilding effort. P. S. Upon review of the other current forum discussions, I really should defer to the No Detailed Recaps forum started by dcifanforlife. N.E. Brigand
DCI even allows.. on a select basis... woodwinds using units into their Quarterfinals at Championships as well. A woodwinds using unit topped a few non woodwinds using DCI units at Quarterfinals last August too. Yes, one or two of last year's international corps had woodwinds, and a number of international corps through the years have had overage members. My understanding is that if any such ensemble gets a higher score than a regular DCI ensemble that would otherwise have qualified for a subsequent round, that the DCI ensemble gets to move up anyway. For example, if Chien Kuo had placed 25th in Prelims last year while, say, Gold had placed 26th, then both corps would have gone on to compete in Semifinals. drumcorpsfever
Scores I know not. Also heard BD 6 in drums And some continue to say that the withholding/leaking of recaps is the same-old-same-old this year with regards to scores? Talk about volatility! There's been some whacky things this year. It's really kind of exciting. I like it!

Jeff Ream
No.. its not true. The CYO Nationals, DCI show, for just one example, had far more in attendance in the 60's, 70's ( DCI years ), than it has the last few years. Also, DCI had far more fans in attendance at Finals in Montreal in 1980, than it has recently. Even if we add in the off site attendance ( ie live stream " attendence ", cinema " attendance ) DCI had 5 times more " attendance " off site via national TV exposure alone, than does DCI today. I see no value in DCI spinning data this way.. What DCI CAN legitimately claim however, is that they have apparently stopped the hemoraging of the loss of show attendance, and it appears that the show attendance at the moment " is better than the last few years show attendence ". DCI can also claim better Texas show attendance too. Thats because not that long ago, there were NO DCI shows in San Antonio, nor in the entire state of Texas itself eitther. Do you know what the show attendance this year to watch the DCI Corps shows was for the single New Jersey DCI show ? ZERO. Even if we factor in that it was a rainout, the numbers of attendees at DCI shows in New Jersey, NY, is at an all time low... even by DCI years standards. DCI just doesn't have that many shows in NY/NJ anymore, thats why. Yes, DCI had more attendence in the state of Iowa this summer than ever before. Nebraska, South Dakota, Idaho too. I'll grant you that as well. 1980 was Birmingham
Jeff Ream
DCI had the best attendance this season in years at all three Florida shows ... Different vantage points looking at different things
Jeff Ream
No... its not speculation here. it is a fact that DCI had far more attendence in the 70's, 80's than today. One reason is that DCI had more shows to arrive at a higher total of attendance. We can verify this by going onto " fromthepressbox" and counting the numbers of shows. Thats easy enough for anyone to do that can simply count. We also know that Finals had more attendance in early years too. We have DCI's own attendance figures from Montreal in 1980 ( that I was in attendance at ). DCI flashed the numbers of Finals attendance on the Stadium screen, and we have pics of that attendance figure from DCI for photographic confirmation too ( this photographic verification from DCI itself been posted here on DCP over the years a number of times previously too). DCI had far more off site " attendence " in the earlier years too. PBS estimated that 315,000 watched the Finals live during the broadcast of Finals. DCI lost TV exposure. So the numbers who watch DCI Finals off site is much , much smaller than the numbers that watch it on paid subscription now. This is not speculation, its simplly common sense to know that more people watched DCI finals when DCI had it on TV, than these days now via paid per view subscribers. DCI can not say that it is having " record attendence ". It CAN however say that its attendence today is better than " the most recent past ". They are on much better solid footing when they claim THAT, as this much smaller window of time that they are claiming this, is probably unassailably accurate. You couldn't have been at finals in Montreal in 80 because it was in Alabama. Montreal was 81 and 82. For someone so hung up on facts, get yours right Signed guy who as a kid went to Birmingham in 80, and Montreal in 81 and 82
