oldsoprano
Was it last year DCI had an A-Town drone video showing corps warming up, the crowd, corps competing, etc.? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uack-azg8SA
Cappybara
I noticed a drone at Allentown way back in 2013 so this isn't a recent phenomenon
c mor
DCI actually had a segment announcing/discussing some kind of agreement with the drone company... DJI - Phantom 4 drone. I would expect to see them used more frequently.
DeanInChicago
The Allentown drones have been present for a few years, but this was the first time I have seen them directly above the grandstands. The FAA states that drones in Pennsylvania are not to fly over stadiums. The FAA also states that drones are not to fly over groups of people. Strike three: drones are not to fly over unprotected persons. I had seats in the upper deck. At one point, there were 2 drones overhead. Looking up, the drones were clearly above us fans. Even if the pilots had solid control of the drones, my biggest kvetch was that the constant buzz was loud enough to distract from the performance on the field. This marred the enjoyment of Spirit of Atlanta and The Academy. Hey, I love being at the Allentown shows. Being outside, I expect to hear brass and percussion warm ups, a nightly siren, a few birds, a vista of SURF souvie lights, props arriving at the Mike Boo corps entry gate, and smiling faces schlepping all colors of shaved ice.
