Popular Post garfield Posted August 16, 2016 Popular Post Share Posted August 16, 2016 OK, I have been pretty much silent since mid season giving the Cadets staff the benefit of the doubt to salvage their season. With that over I must say I am very close to done with George Hopkins. I posted on his facebook today requesting the truth about staff defections and he deleted it. That says it all to me. If you cannot be open and honest with alumni and supporters. Then good luck. It pains me to say that I will be very heavy heartedly letting go of my support for the Cadets. If someone wants to hire their girlfriend and daughter to try and bring Cadets colorguard back to what is was in the 90s, then that is a sad commentary. I guess I will move on to supporting Crown, the corps that most reminds me of Cadets from my time....sorry George, you have lost my financial support. Wow. Just wow. You publicly confront him on his FB page, demanding answers, and you're shocked, *SHOCKED*, that he not only ignores you but deletes your post? Can you imagine what might have happened had you penned a calm, concerned private letter to him? Would you so strongly challenge his hiring decisions had they resulted in a medal, or a guard caption award? Your "girlfriend" and "daughter" qualifier is insulting, IMO. You present yourself as a staunch supporter with a heavy heart, but you bail on the Cadets at a moment when they might need your support the most. THAT "says it all", IMO. To be sure, Crown, or whomever else you choose to support, will welcome your gift. But if you're honest, you'll add the qualifier that your support is only as consistent as their medaling and/or hiring decisions, and you shouldn't be surprised when they give your subsequent contact the same import that GH did. Shameful rant, IMO, even without considering that the rumors aren't even confirmed yet. And I'm not usually one to give GH any quarter. It IS your money - do with it as you see fit, for sure. This year, the Cadets will be back with a better show and placement. I hope you're right. But "The Cadets" aren't just George Hopkins (contrary to what he may believe - yes, that's a dig; yes, I'm frustrated). And if the rumors turn out to be true, he'll pretty much be the only one left. He probably didn't see it coming, he's coming down off of the emotional high of finals week, and WHAM! right in the hey now so to speak.For once....maybe just maybe, he's choosing to think before he types. I've most likely heard the same information as you, and if it all truly does come to pass, silence really is the only option right now. There will be plenty of time for statements after offical announcements. It may well be that those who are leaving have allowed cadets to find replacements before they make an announcement. I seriously doubt they're going to focus the show on old band directors instead of athletic kids, even if the Cadets have a ton of backstage drama right now.
