The foundation this year appears to be strong and capable of rising in competitive stature. How this all ends (placement-wise) is too early to know. But, the present Top 3 (in my mind) will be VERY difficult to upset. Who among Blue Devils, Bluecoats, and Santa Clara is most likely to fall out of podium position? (Of course, Carolina Crown is in the discussion , too) No disrespect to SCV, but I would say they would be the most likely. When was the last time they were in the top 3? In the last 10 years they've been mostly 4-5 with a few 6's and a 7th thrown in. I know it's their anniversary year, but I don't understand why so many people (not just you) have them pegged for a top 3 finish.

Visual trips down memory lane did not go well for their Bay area rivals in 1992 either. The color guard rifle spins and the sideline company front certainly give a base to "morph" from but the amount of time devoted to it, imo, is excessive. The butterfly flag spins is also very historic - they've been used numerous times by BD color guard. They may still win high brass, but a fourth place finish is not unheard of for the Blue Devils - its just unheard of in twelve years, 2005 and twelve years before that in 1993.

I don't see them falling out of medal contention though. They're just not the team you bet against.

It was not a good not for the soloists in Pittsburgh. Fan of the Arts

It wouldn't surprise me to see BD fall to third out of that group (BC, SCV, BD) if these are the potential medal winners. I'm not even thinking about Crown. But we also know that its dangerous to bet against BD. They will clean the hell out of anything they put on the field. It's even crazy to not see them on the podium since its been a long time that has not happened. (Of course, Carolina Crown is in the discussion , too) None, but if I had to choose one then I'd go with SCV based solely on recent history. BD's show is the least complete of the three, perhaps a little more than usual, but I also believe it has the most potential. What we've seen is only the blueprint, itself already a monster of a show. Bluecoats are pretty solid across the board, and have GE on their side once again. But it's still June, and anything can happen between now and August. I can't wait to see Cadets again! I've only seen snippets since opening night, but musically I'm really diggin' the show. It's the least impressive BD show I've seen as it's the least impressive Crown show I've seen. I still think it's a little early to bet against the top 3 from 2016 but within the next 2 weeks groupings along with 1-2 dark horses that don't follow the groupings rule will start to tentatively come into view and then it's easier to see what the green shirts are thinking.
