N.E. Brigand
That's a gaida, not the bagpipe that was referred to OP. True. I couldn't find a video that included both a hurdy-gurdy and the more familiar Scottish bagpipe.
lindap
I've heard (have) 3 recordings of a non-competitive all girl drum corps perform with bagpipes. Hush; don't tell anyone (look around). 1974-outdoors on a field. 1975-indoors in an arena (another musical selection included a synth oh my gasp). 1991-a theatre stage! luv4corps
If we're adding bagpipes, let's throw in a hurdy-gurdy or two as well. And then let's open a new door for a theramin of course. Actually, a theramin could be quite effective in the right show. Bluecoats, Blue Knights, Blue Devils could all pull off a theramin. lindap
"Hey guys, are bagpipes illegal?" - Posted by TotallyNotGeorgeHopkins No worries. Bagpipes experiment was long ago and the arranger was associated with Troopers and many other corps.
cixelsyd
Bagpipes were originally legal in American Legion competition. The Pierre, SD, corps used them in the 1928 finals.

There is still a high school all-girl drum/bugle/bagpipe corps. They have been around for decades. Central High School Kilties from Springfield, MO. Missouri has several such units today. Funny thing is.....when you watch their videos, they don't seem to play the bagpipes or bugles......just the percussion. There is quite a bit of marching, though. There have been some HS bands in NJ that historically have used bagpipe sections. Governor Livingston fro Berkeley Heights and Kearny HS are two of them I have seen. GL was one of the best marching bands in NJ for a long time. I used to love their pipe features.
Fish
And then let's open a new door for a theramin of course. Actually, a theramin could be quite effective in the right show. Bluecoats, Blue Knights, Blue Devils could all pull off a theramin. It's been done already. Vanguard had a theramin in the pit for their 2015 show. They also used a theramin sample in their 2011 show.
