markdewine
First of all, I'm a drum corps dinosaur...older than dirt! While I certainly respect any corps' right to modify an existing uniform or change it altogether, if it's not broke...don't fix it. Certain uniforms are so iconic, that there really is no reason to change them. I know...its not 1965 anymore. Things change. Even world renowned uniforms like the Marine Corps dress blues have changed over the years. Just sayin'...some corps like Cadets, Troopers, Kilties, SCV, Cabs,...you get the idea. JAZZER
If the decision makers believe the WGI "uniform trend" is of value to remain competitive, they will probably be bold IMO. I prefer traditional with modern tweaks, not a total abandon as BC adopted in '16. Will be interesting to see how this is done!! Or not! For some perspective of what some WGI ensembles wore in '16: http://www.marching.com/photos/2016-wgi-percussion-championships-photos-world-class/ http://www.marching.com/photos/2016-wgi-winds-championships-photos/ http://www.marching.com/photos/2016-wgi-percussion-championships-photos-open-class/ http://www.marching.com/photos/2016-wgi-mid-south-percussion-winds-championship-photos/index.php http://www.marching.com/photos/2016-wgi-percussion-championships-photos-a-class/
N.E. Brigand
The use of a survey to make artistic decisions is a bit alarming. I appreciate that BC is concerned about their tradition and such, but if they want to make artistic changes, by God, just make them and then sell the hell out of them. Market surveys are for politicians and shampoo, not artists. I don't see it as alarming at all. Movies use focus groups all the time. Most non-profit arts organizations see themselves as serving their community, which means that they should regularly be asking (or at least asking themselves) what the community wants.
