I know we have no hard numbers to throw around, but having been to a lot of DCI auditions and rehearsals the last couple of years, the problem is not needing more kids coming out - it's that there are not enough corps to hold all of them. There are a *ton* of great musicians that excluded, sadly. Mike

Mike Having watched the Guardians official posted vid of this recent camp including their Hip Hop specialist, I was extremely underwhelmed. It all seemed a return to the BOA popular style of 1995-2005 with the de rigor ensemble dance or kung foo moves usually about 5 minutes into the show before the closer. I too have read some comments from brass folk there wondering why everyone is being dictated to do "color guard moves." they consider themselves musicians, not dancers. no matter the age cohort, current MMs or dinos, the opinions are rarely unanimous as tastes differ even within age groups. Mike There are enough corps....one problem is that some kids get their sights set so hard on a particular corps that they won;t even consider another...especially in Open class.

I was thinking about all those kids who were cut from their first choice corps as I was looking at some photos of April camp from a lower placing world class corps which looked to have a very small brass/guard turnout. If only...

It costs 1/2-million dollars to provide a place for that to happen.

mingusmonk
To be clear, fan-boys and fan-girls are often different than "future DCI marching members," Analyzing audition camp turn-out seems an odd way to judge the quantity of fan-boy/girl. I agree. If you want to march, a spot will be found. The real challenge is convincing the kid that didn't make their "dream corps" to march somewhere else.
