it's people today. you're either with us or against us.

went to my nephews little league game. 7 year olds. people only clapped for their kid, not the team. This fall, i complimented a coworkers favorite team after an amazing comeback, even though it's known I dont like his team. Guy looked at me like i had 3 heads

And that's sad, Jeff. One thing I did learn BITD was to have respect for competitors. We did go over to Sun and shake hands in '82 at retreat for that very reason. One of those things where I grew up from doing it, and took with me for the rest of my life for the better.

so people who post on here on arent dealing with reality?

Of course that's not what Im saying probably doesn't deserve a reply

but...

You were speaking of corps being slotted out of the gate.  I had brought up -- in a tongue and cheek sort of way -- that would be some sort of collusion on DCA's part, adjudicators and the corps so, start the presses because that is serious news and in todays climate we certainly need something substantial to grab onto.  My point was to show how absurd slotting out of the gate was.  You can twist away at my statement, but that's clearly not its intention. There are many opinions in this forum, but opinions are not necessarily reality, I welcome them all as I would hope you welcome mine.

As I stated earlier.  Numbers are a measuring stick.  A tool.  They show strengths and weaknesses with in your own unit and where you compare to your competitors.  If used right, they are an important part of the process and add value to the performers experience.  Ultimately it's up to you to stress to your membership what to take away from the adjudicators numbers and how you as a team are going to move forward.  I think it's a shame to take that away.  Adam has explained his reasons as why his corps feels the need to do it this way, i disagree.  And it's just that a disagreement  You and John have said this has come from the corps, I disagree and I think at least one administrator from one corps has backed up that this is not true.

I wish all those we that are teaching, I hope your shows become the vehicles that your members will throughly enjoy performing all season.  And for those of you like me watching from the seats I hope the shows kick *** and create some memorable moments for a life time.

I still remember the Yankee Rebels in the mid-seventies

The Buccaneers in 79 & 80 (wow what a hornline)

The Sunrisers in 83

The Cabs in 84 & 85

The Bushwhackers in 86

... and the list goes on

They created memories that I'll never forget.  I hope this years crop does that for all.

so let me ask you a question.....in the years since the Wildwood show started, which time did the winner of finals not win Wildwood?

(hint...twice, and neither of the finals winners attended Wildwood)

Wow that's a serious contrarian theory.

... or gratuitously fussy

why? the corps wanted it this way. thats why

Exactly.

There was no rocket-science calculation with this decision. The corps involved with the Wildwood show feel the evaluation format makes sense for them... and that's all I need to know.

I will admit, at first, I was one of those people who was like "Why not have scores?" when I heard Wildwood was a 'preview show'. But, as my corps and the other two Minnesota DCA corps have an exhibition performance tonight, I totally understand the value of having a show where there's less competitive pressure and more emphasis on entertaining the audience and getting a read on your program.

And a reminder that there are some corps who will not see a DCA judge until August. This is nothing new for us. Just my two cents. Looking forward to seeing you east coast folks in Rochester!

The first Mount Carmel "preview" show was held in 1969 ... I was there with Sky ... it was a most festive event for both the corps and the fans ... the corps got to see each other and check out their wares ... plus ... perform in a relaxed atmosphere, where the only competition was for fan (and peer) approval ... a chance to get over the jitters and get he kinks out ...

1972 saw two "pre" Field Shows ... Mount Carmel and Ithaca ... both exhibitions ... both fan filled ... one in the evening (PA) and one in the afternoon (NY) ... complete with the show, after-party, pretty good brawl in Ithaca ... an escort outta town ... every corps was pretty well primed for the season opener in Hamden CT (Hurc's show) the next weekend both years ...

So ... we're talking 48 years ago that this concept was instituted - and LOVED by all ...

I don't understand all the rhetoric ...

:-)

So who started the beef in Ithaca?
