From what I understand: if they place in the top 12, they are in. But because they are a DCUK/DCE Corps, there will still be 12 DCI Corps at Finals -- 13 Corps at Finals total. I hope this is accurate info.

Nuts4DC
Not sure why anyone is taking about The Company and Open Class. They will not be competing against the OC corps. They have members over the age of 21 and by that alone removes them from the competition.

Like Taipei Yuehfu in 2013, or all three international groups in 2015, if they don't get a top-twelve score, they don't get to perform in Finals. (Maybe DCI would let them go on as exhibition; not sure about that.) But if they do, then they don't bump out a junior corps.

They will compete with the Open Class corps but as members of the International Class division. What it boils down to is, although they are competing with Open Class, according to DCI International rules, they are not allowed to displace a U.S. corps. So if they come in 12th place during prelims rank-wise, DCI will slide 13 Open Class corps into finals. If they come in 13th, game over. Same with Thursday during World Class prelims. If they beat Blue Devils, the Top Twelve suddenly becomes the Top Thirteen.

I should note that I'm not sure if all three 2015 international groups had overage members. Jubal (from the Netherlands) certainly did.* But Gita Surosowan Banten (from Indonesia) and Chien Kuo (from Taiwan--and actually a high school marching band, I believe) might have been ineligible due to other reasons, like improper instruments (strings for GSB and woodwinds for CK, as I recall). *Speaking of Jubal, the 2015 results may be instructive as to where The Company will finish. Jubal's DCI Open Class finals score of 68.45 would have placed them eighth, between Music City and Gold (compare to SCVC's 81.25 in first). They went on to place third in the Drum Corp Europe finals, 2.20 pts. behind The Company in second. So maybe figure on The Company finishing 6th-7th this year. However, I think The Company's show this year, based on the videos we've seen, was already stronger in June than Jubal's show was when they appeared in the U.S. in July-August. (And remember that the European season doesn't end until late September, so their corps have plenty of time still to grow beyond what we get to see live in the States.) TRacer
I thought it ironic that both the Santa Clara corps took 2nd by a whisker last night to BD, and that both SCV and SCVC took High GE and Perc in their respective competitions. I listened to the Wed night video of SCVC's show and their drum book is incredible; they are really going for it at the end of opener.

N.E. Brigand
Last year, the Prelims order was determined by the average of each corps' two best score during the last nine days. I'm going to guess that this year the review period actually starts with the Cape Girardeau show eleven days out, and does not include any shows with World Class corps (e.g. Nashville). Too late for me to start the running calculations tonight, but I'll catch up with that tomorrow or the next day.
