Coming back to 2018... after seeing all the corps shows this year the most musically demanding performance has to be Crown's 2nd Movement (Build a Pyre et al). The musical, physical and spacial demand of this section of the show (brass and percussion) is well above anything else this year. While they still have a lot of work to do (cleaning/editing/layering) the fact that both brass and percussion are best in class and the top 4/5 are grouped so tightly right now I believe Crown will not only medal but be a threat to take it all. Regardless... it is going to be one heck of a season from now to finals!

Agreed it’s a technically impressive section but you have a 2.5-3 minute section were they are showing off but without any big GE moments.  Look back to e=mc^2 and the arrangements barely let you go 45-60 seconds with some kind of moment....I think there is space in the current arrangements to insert a couple gratuitous GE hits

Which will come with the layering I believe.

Surely you aren't talking about inserting large chords, right? I'd much rather they just maintain the current flow of the music than chop it up for the sake of GE.

You know what they say, GE wins championships...

I agree, GE does win Championships

Which is unfortunate. The most subjective caption of them all has the most weight. It leads to some groups having the best seasons in terms of brass, percussion, guard, etc. Yet they can ultimately end up 3 to 4 places lower than they could've because of a single very opinion-based caption that happens to have the most influence on scores. I agree with the others who have said they wish a change was made to lower the impact of GE, and raise the point value of visual and music.

It may be an opinion based caption (as are all other captions btw), but the scoring for GE is pretty consistent when taking into account just how subjective it is

Yes, but the judges weigh GE more now than the value of visual and music (IMO) so you need to design your show that is full of GE

I know they are all opinion based. I wouldn't say it's incredibly consistent. Last year at world prelims, the GE scores were all over the place with the Cavaliers (5th at the time) getting 2nd by one of the music effect judges and 6th from the other. That's a pretty big gap in opinions. By finals, yes, they may have dialed it in, but still. Just looking between those 3 days the scores were pretty non consistent minus BD and SCV.
