Richard Pryor had an affair with Marlon?

That was Quincy Jones's claim in an interview back in February, and Pryor's widow said it was true. But Pryor's daughter said it wasn't.

It could be done as long as it's the original score and uses real Broadway stars / singers.  The public should never again be tortured with the likes of another Phantom of the Opera and Les Mis movie remake with their awful Hollywood / pop cast of performers.  No matter how much money the creators of thes two musicals made, I lost a lot of respect for them for what they allowed to happen to their musicals.  Absolutely atrocious.

When Hollywood can't even do a good Scooby Do or Underdog remake that speaks volumes.

Did Peter Dinkledge say "Simon says" even once lol. Ok saw it for free on Nick movie night and like Jason Lee and Dinkledge.

My first thought was Lego WSS

There was a 1990s documentary titled East Side Story; its subject was musicals produced in Russia and its Iron Curtain satellite states.

Think that's what MAD magazine called it's late 50s version. Guess U.N. building is on east side as it was communist leaders vs western leaders. Khrushchev in a black leather jacket singing when you're a red (when you're a jet) lol

WSS might well have been ESS. Jerome Robbins originally envisioned the musical as being about a Jewish girl (became Maria) and an Italian/Catholic boy (Tony later on).

Speaking of Krushchev, he's played nicely by Steve Buscemi in the recent movie The Death of Stalin, which I warmly recommend.

".. trying to picture a rumble between those groups. "

In today's NYC, I can understand that sentiment, but in the city of the 1940s and even into the '50s things weren't always so copacetic between those groups. Both were essentially immigrants, competing for jobs, housing and other resources.

Parents of many of the Jewish teens were recent Eastern European refugees who had fled Nazi occupation. There was a resentment on the part of the other groups who were slightly better established and considered themselves "true" Americans.

If this scenario is beginning to sound familiar, perhaps that suggests why a new West Side Story might be rather poignant right about now.

"Somewhere..."

One can only hope.
