Technically, the "Paulie" reference came from Goodfellas, and "The family had lots of buffas" came from the Godfather, but they're both excellent and you are forgiven for confusing them.

Do you mean DAN ACHESON?

Or his twin brother, Dean, who actually unloads boxes of unsold finals programs on the shipping dock behind DCI's home office?

Just making sure that we're talking about the same person in the same activity.

Actually, Dean Acheson was the Secretary of State during the Cold War under Truman. The Kennedy administration brought him in to help with strategy during the cuban missile crisis. The movie 13 Days has some great scenes with Achison and the Kennedy cabinet clashing over what to do.

Anyway, back to regularly scheduled program...

Been working for 35+ years and thinking of the changes in sexual harassment and other areas. Back then it was make excuses, talk around it or tell the victim not to make waves so everything seems ok on the surface (worry about image). Now it’s deal with the real problem and either counsel or remove the offender (hades with image correct/remove the problem). That’s why making this a PR problem bugs me

Usually, the PR team's goal is to get the facts, regrets, and apologies out in an honest and decent way that doesn't cause the people they work for to trip on their you know whats even further than they have or end up in further legal embroilment.

I'd probably be too brutally honest so working for one of these groups would be unlikely, but... I have a feeling  that's what they might do at this point. IIRC.... one strategy is to throw yourselves at the mercy of the madding crowd. And it can work.

Each NCAA member school has to pay for said compliance officer, i am sure the cost could be split. This way there is someone in place not beholden to the member corps. Just a spitball, but something is needed to report any violations of laws/rules/protocol/etc.

Agree, Tony.  DCI could utilize a better 3rd party oversight, with nobody on that oversight committee connected to any Corps at that moment in time. Dan fills that role, but he could use more resources, more help. DCI expects to police itself from an organizational structure perspective. YEA too.  Thats inherently problematic, imo, and an invite to the classic Conflicts of Interest. These structures are outdated,, and need to be brought into the 21st century, imo

Dan Acheson, executive director and CEO of Drum Corps International, told IndyStar he was deeply concerned and first learned of the allegations when the article published.

The organization is conducting an internal review to learn whether any employees knew of the allegations but failed to report them. It's also reviewing policies and procedures around reporting abuse, Acheson said.

The employee handbook contains directions for Drum Corps International employees on how to report allegations, Acheson said. But now, the organization is reviewing how to create a similar process for those outside who are involved in drum corps groups, such as participants, their families or directors.

"We're making sure we have all of the right mechanisms in place," Acheson said. "We are taking this very seriously."

   -----------------And then further down _______________________

Drum Corps International also is reviewing policies related to ensuring compliance with best practices and laws around reporting abuse for participating groups, Acheson said.

Participating groups that fail to meet Drum Corps International's policies can lead to that group's dismissal.

The organization also is in contact with Youth Education in the Arts, Acheson said.

Maybe DCI should have a "Compliance Director" on each of the Corps' BOD. Similar to what many NCAA member institutions have. One that is beyond reproach and reports any violations, no matter how small to DCI.

Yeah, that works really great in the NCAA. And yes, this is sarcasm.

so you're saying people are going to federal prison ;P

Is it too late for Cadets to add "Layla" to their 2018 show?
