The Academy 2018

Recommended Posts

It was fantastic!

Strongest horn line I've heard, and the visual design was perfect IMO. The show works extremely well as whole package and every one I went to the event with did not expect such a drastic improvement over last year. The show is not as "happy go-lucky" as previous years per say, but has an Academy flair to it. My friends and I thought they have an extremely strong shot at finals for a second year.

As a side note, the uniforms look so much better than in the reveal photo. Something about how that photo was edited made them look different than they look like in person. The Asymetric design lends so much to visual effect.

Good to know.  I figured they’d look better on the field 150 strong than th awkwardness of that photo.

Someday, the uniform designers may get over themselves enough to provide photos that show how they look in use and sketches that approximate humans (rather than imply that the slenderman is marching Cadets this year).

I hope so! I went in thinking I was gonna be disappointed in the uniform and walked out thinking it may be my favorite of the season. People will be surprised by The Academy's show once again this year IMO

Nothing against Academy - I really hope they do well.

But a lot of what you said could be applied to ANY Corps at this point in the season.  Everyone is so much better than last season.  The key is 'How much better this season is Corps X vs How much better this season is Corps Y?'

Now, now...in this era of political correctness and inclusivity, one has to be prudent when speaking the truth. Otherwise you might just get socked with one of those boahs or half skirts or faux-hats or eurotards.

Well at least you didn't refer to the model as Edward Scissorhands like the mms do. Perhaps link your comments to the foodporn of BAC's thread to beef up the poor anorexic dream team marcher. Could the designers be drawing their own subconscious self-image?  ha, ha.

Definitely a step up from last year but not the lightning in the bottle of drum corpse bride.  It isn't a false statement that they sound better than last year but I think last year was trying to recreate the previous year by doing more.  They have 7 minutes moving and playing and stood still for the remainder.  Looks like another slow impactful ending like they did with drum corpse bride and it sounds great.  They have a small stage behind the pit for 4 narrator/singerish people (think crown 13).  Saw someone post a uniform pic and lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve them.

i was really hoping to make it there, but i couldn't get off work in time. however, i heard a recording of the show and i liked what i heard. definitely sounded like a different identity than we usually get from academy. i think design wise, this show has the potential to be my favorite from them, just needs to get some execution goin'. but definitely some top 12 potential in here.

The "Send Off Show" put on last Saturday by THE ACADEMY and their Sound Sport entry PHENOM was well received by a packed house. OH MY! Earplugs a must for their Alma Mater/Anne Lisle Opener! Their once again Classy Uniforms, are a Perfect fit for their 2018 "ACADEMIC" Theme. The Corps Maturity and the musicality they bring to Michael Klesch's  extremely challenging book should be well received by the judges and fans alike. At first glimpse, there is a good possibility they'll see a jump from last years 14th place finish.

Each year ALL the Open and World Class Corps get Better and Better. Looking forward to a very entertaining, exciting and Competitive Season. Wishing them all the Best.  Happy and Safe Trails to all Corps. .
