Its not a perjorative phrase as I utilize it either. It merely reflects the reality of what they are, and in light of the fact, the Show Designers themselves associate their production as "theatre " with Music/ Dance/ Singing/ Make Up, etc. Generally speaking, when I attend a Broadway styled Production, they do not refer to the attire worn by the performers as " uniforms ". They are typically referred to as " the costuming in the show ".... and performers " wearing costumes " that reflect the period piece of the show. Its ok to utilize " uniforms ", too if people still feel the need to retain that time honored nomenclature. But allow those of us that prefer to call these " costumes " now the deference to do so. Beyond the name one prefers for the attire, its really what we all think of the attire itself as it relates to the chosen theme on the field for that season that matters the most now, imo Actually, they don't call them costumes either. They call them attire. They don't say "go change into your act 2, scene 3 costume".
jmc5682
I just do not think it is inhumane to make the corps wear aussies or shakos. I get that the no head gear thing is supposed to give the members more of a chance to connect with the audience. I think this is a crappy excuse, because they should have a horn in their face more then not (I guess all the corps do have a lot more time when their faces are exposed now that there seems to be less horn playing) IMHO. I think no head gear looks less appealing from the stands. It also makes the drill look not as crisp. The pop of color you get with an aussie and feathers or shako and plume is a huge loss when I watch these corps that have doffed their head gear. I am hoping this new lack of "hats" is just a faze, but if not, I will just have to adjust as I have had to do regarding many changes in drum corps over the years.

Agreed about the head gear...sat in Allentown last year and thought BK and SCV looked “short” from the stands. Made the drill look different as well. I’m right with you, have to adjust to each change that comes along.
littlejaw
The corps seem obligated to go without headgear for some reason. I think it would be best if headgear was used in the show and when they come off it means something. The part where we connect to the performer, but really they look better with headgear on.

How else can my fans post all those great photos and selfies of me if they can't see my beauuuuuutiful face? My brand, not the corps' brand. Besides that's how we do it indoors in WGI Edited June 9, 2018 by xandandl

What goes around, comes around. Keep a suit in the closet long enough, it comes back in style, etc., etc., etc.

What goes around, comes around. Keep a suit in the closet long enough, it comes back in style, etc., etc., etc. but never comes back exactly the same Just a personal opinion here, I do think some kind of headgear does seem to complete a look, unifies a group, in some cases, make members look taller BUT I also know with today's design running around, up and down off the ground, less and less " military type movement" bobbing plumes in every direction also muddies the view imo. I am more than ok with some not wearing headgear, especially if it works for the program but also hope one can choose to wear something if that works for them.
