What was the last top 12 corps to fold? Glassmen? Has the marketplace reached a sweet spot where all of the 16 or so elite organizations can exist and there is not a financial strain? Is there a perfect balance between revenue and expense? Truly this is a golden age for the activity! Most also pay next to nothing, if not nothing for their uniforms and equipment. The top probably 6 or so don't pay for much and what they do pay for they get VERY generous discounts.

A Corps can win a DCI Title finishing ( for example ) 6th in Drums, but if you don't medal in Guard/ GE Visual, forget about it.' Not going to happen. Phantom Regiment 2008 is a true anomaly in DCI's history. They are the only corps since 2000 to finish outside the Top 3 in ANY of the visual sub-captions (4th in Visual Ensemble and Guard) and still win the title. Meanwhile, in percussion ALONE there have been three DCI champions outside the Top 3 (2006 Cavaliers, 2010 Blue Devils, 2013 Carolina Crown) and four more DCI champions who were 3rd in percussion at Finals (2002 Cavaliers, 2003 Blue Devils, 2004 Cavaliers, 2011 Cadets).

If so, will it be a Caesar Miller design, by Stan Berry, De Moolah, or Fruepooh?? Will we notice them or will they blend in so as not to distract? Will DiCarlo and crew get unis? costumes? What about Potter, Crocker, and Blair? C'mon, it's 2018 and are they still looking like they did in 1972? Get with the trends; embrace the change. I love you! The DCI Champion has finished 1st in Visual Performance 7 times (70%) The DCI Champion has finished 1st in Visual Ensemble/Analysis 7 times (70%) The DCI Champion has finished 1st in Color Guard 6 times (60%) The Blue Devils are 0.4 points away from having won three championships in a row, and they've won exactly 1 musical sub-caption at Finals in the past three seasons (they've taken 8 of 9 visual sub-captions). At this point in DCI's evolution, uniform design matters more than ever. Interesting analysis. It took a long time to introduce the concepts of shared musicality, staging, dynamics among the 3 distinctions of horns, drums, guard. I'm pleased. Thank you. Just shorts and khakis? Oh my...judges gonna be showing some skin this year...cruel and unusual punishment for the crowds after all the trash talk over the years?
