Not looking good for any DCA show this week end

More memories of that disaster... did the exhibition in street clothes (and corps jackets?) which means went home soaking wet in buses that had the air conditioner cranked because of the humidity. Pulled up thinking the show had to be called off and #### someone's on the field. Glasses rained up and NO idea how we did that merge at the 50 in the drum solo without any collisions

Was anyone in the stands??

Good question. All I remember is the horrible weather that night. That same scenario today, and the show would have been called off in a minute, or moved inside.

Thankfully, for me and the rest of the Jersey Crew that was a "drive show" so we didn't have to deal with the too-cold-and-wet-on-the-bus situation. We were only an hour or less from home.

Funny thing about the Columbus show is it looks like they could have pulled that one last night. Best laid plans and all that.

It opened up hard with thunder and lightning around 6PM and didn't stop till 730. It rained till about 830PM in Pataskala that weekend so either way, it would have been rained out or rain delayed. It sucks because we were hoping for those funds and the score but we, and the rest of the directors agreed it was the right decision.

There were fans, I do remember that, not many.

Electronics is a big part of it. Last thing anyone one wants is some disaster there. DCA prelims at Annapolis was held up substantially one year because the stadium's lightning detectors were going off left and right, no visible lightning, but close enough that things were stopped.

Glad to see someone owning it. Electronics never should have been involved in outdoor activity.

This season in particular, I like how they're being utilized by everyone that was at Big Sounds. It did take awhile for everyone to figure some things out, but they were solid.

As for the rain... the way things are with litigation, Nazareth would have at best been a brass only standstill electronics or no electronics. The drill is too physical as well. Easy enough to lose footing and go down on a good day let alone that deluge.

Downpours in contests underway and more so parades were not that uncommon back in the dark ages of the 60s for sure.

Those who were at the 1965 Dream in Jersey City - esp the Roch Crusaders - may recall that the show had threats of storms for most of the show - then Roch got to about the final drum solo - the thunder and some lightning as well as a little wet coming down showed up.  But those on the field claimed the swirling wind dust devils were the bigger challenge.  All  I could think of was watching those in the CG with the aluminum polls. If you have a recording of that show - you clearly can hear the thunder clapping in tune to the exit being played - In the Still of the Night.  To their credit - the crowd gave them a rousing ovation as they completed the show in that less than comforting situation.  They deserved a better score that show for sure.
