They finished in 11th in Mason's last year - I guess Komnick thought they could do better? I really haven't looked at the trajectory of Madison's finishes lately. Mason's five year average placement was the best since Sal Salas. The very next year they finished 8th, which was the best Madison had done since 2005. But that was the high point of the 2010's. It was followed by 13th in 2016, then a brief bounce back into finals in 12th in 2017, then last year 16th. They are currently on-pace to finish 17th this year, assuming none of the open class groups competing in prelims surpass them (not a guarantee). So I'd say the trend is decidedly downward post-Mason. Last year's 16th placement was the lowest the corps has finished since *1964*.

Not really how it went down. Madison hired Mason (and company) for a set amount of years - Maybe 4? to help the Scouts and they did well. It was never meant to be permanent. 2

False, the initial contract was 3 years, then was renewed. After 2014, when the corps got 11th, CK used it as an opportunity to get complete control, thus micromanaging the organization into what it is now.

Mason was not interested in being there long term. It was a 3-4 year project for him. This is from people that were on that design team during the time.

If the scoring trend continues, it would not surprise me.

So to keep it accurate, last year's 16th placement was the lowest the corps has finished since *1972*. There. That's sounds better doesn't it?? 🙂
