I never want to hear that BD doesn’t move enough again

while the corps fills in the field at 180 bpm

Correct I have a DJ program that counts bpm, results are all over the place for corps but back when Crowns drums were 5th & 6th they topped that chart. Meaningless info but since you mentioned bpm.

This argument is unlikely to go anywhere without someone sitting down with the videos and taking the time to document how much each group is moving and how much ground they're covering.

Just need to watch Bloo it's total MM participation every member is contributing to the show design 100% OF THE TIME. No in show water breaks resting behind props. That in some cases make no sense at all, to the end. They don't remove sections of the horn or guard to make them empty baggage cart pushers or make them furniture movers on long hauls across the field.

They don't highlight one section at a time and showcase them for the judges, none of them age-old tactics that it takes to win.

Bloo has been following a new intelligent design for the MMs so they get what they are paying for. FACE-TIME with the audiences. Someday if one does not provide that the MMs will seek out such designs.

Oh that's right Bloo is one slot away of getting a bashing thread of their own, be patient Bloo it will come.

I think if you actually watch Bluecoats with a stopwatch in hand, you won't find that their brass are simultaneously playing and marching much longer (and perhaps not as long) as either Blue Devils or Santa Clara Vanguard.

Would not doubt your research. Maybe it is me that is fully engaged in watching Bloo. I am not trying to take anything away from SCV or BD. Bloo fits in well where they are. After that, for me, there seems to be somewhat of an attention gap but not much.

He used to challenge his kids.  Not this year.  He should be the first inductee in the hall of shame.

I'm sure you think you could get out there and fill any one of those spots.

The rest of us will be here with the defibrillator.

I agree that BLOO used park an blow big time this year.  However at least they spread the field.  Vanguard stayed in concert formation practically.

That's exactly why the vanguard show is a joke.  Everyone plays follow the leader.  I don't like seeing everyone copy BD's dance moves and now everyone is going to follow this pathetic production.  I don't care if SCV has legends on their staff.  They should be ashamed.

The only thing I can think of is that DCI wants to move into basketball arenas and the judges were informed of this.  I for one won't be a part of it.  You guys can fall in love with an inferior product all you want but for SCV to win high everything with that show was an embarrassment.  They might as well of just played in concert formation right in front of the microphones.

Literally the worst winning show in the last 33 years.

But this thread springs from the criticism that some corps don't march enough and more to the point that some people feel that makes such corps less deserving. I don't see it that way at all.  Now, I'd need to listen to all the shows more carefully to say for sure, but it sure seemed to me like the top 3 corps all had very difficult music books - more so than the other corps.  If you just sit back and listen every section of these corps was challenged like crazy in what they were playing.  Not only that, but all the corps were mixing in sampled music as well that had to be synchronized.  Whether you like that or not it's hard to do.  Now when I watch these corps I also see all kinds of movement and a lot of the time they are playing.  There's actually still a lot of marching in these shows, but in a traditional show most of the time there is more or less one giant drill that is evolving throughout the show.  In these modern shows there are a bunch of smaller sets of drill playing out all at once.  The members are also doing all kinds of body movement, and oh BTW they even climb props, jump off of props, etc.  That's all very hard to do.

No, it is not all very hard to do.  Is it hard to stand still while playing?  Occasionally wiggle one leg while playing?  Lean to one side while playing?  Play while standing still on a prop?  Not compared to playing while marching.  There are a few specific things certain corps are doing which are difficult, but the vast majority of playing-while-not-marching situations are simply not as demanding as playing-while-marching.

You remind me of the poster who insists that scatter drill is harder to "clean" than conventional drill forms.
