The summer's almost over, but some people in DCI are sweating bullets right now, but its got nothing to do with the outside temperature.

Marketing manager must have written the OC Member Handbook as well because they didn't follow their own guidelines on a few things.

Not necessarily. Objectively, an organization can write near perfect policies, mission statements that are visionary, and say all the right things. The intentions may even be as lofty as lofty can be. Following that policy can be another issue.

What seems tio be the issue is the whistle blowing policy, not so much the policy, but how the issues are handled. Though this is a bit outside the scope of this thread, I think we all know there is a need for a place where marching members and staff can air concerns. What I am wondering is how the information is delivered to the corps? I think DCI had to come up with a policy quickly based on  preseason events this past Spring, but it would be nice to know after reporting, how the information is handled. From what I'm gathering, two corps with a  possibility of a third have had complaints that have been aired by DCI. In the case of two of the corps, and perhaps will be the case with the third, it seems as if it is easy top trace the complaint to the person and it makes matters worse.

I can also confirm that OC's handling of whistleblower reports was a huge sad joke.

If that's true, then that is not good for DCI at all.  Dan A. has to be having sleepless nights.  I'm not going to point fingers or make assumptions as I don't know the whole story, but DCI really needs to shore up that anyone who submits a concern needs to have their concern followed up on.  If they are passing it back to the corps to do the follow up and nothing is happening, then swift action needs to happen to that organization. Perhaps a follow up from DCI to the member whether their concern was addressed would be appropriate.  If it is DCI's job to investigate and handle the concern, then the activity is in a ton of trouble.

It goes back to education and working with youth.  Schools would be jumping on this immediately, putting the alleged offender on leave, investigating and if necessary involving law enforcement and then making a decision.  I'm really at that point of not caring if you're a someone who has a name/reputation in the activity, an admin, a Hall of Famer, or judge, you are not above the law or protection.  It is not being old-school.  It is not about tradition.  It is about doing the right thing.

Again, I don't want to make assumptions, but I'm just so sad for what the youth (and staff) and what some are going through.

OC has their own whistleblower submission available online. Reports were submitted online anonymously and just a few hours later, after a show, the director told the media team to stop recording and he announced that people used the online whistleblower form and proceeded to berate all the members for not coming directly to him. Needless to say members were even more scared to rasie any concerns about anything after that incident. Suffice it to say, alot of future music educators in the group learned lessons of what not to do as a music educator. Apologies for going down this rabbit hole on this thread!
