Yet if you look at what works off the field to make a champion: team work, hard work, dedication, drive, determination, pursuit of excellence, that never changes, at least in essence.

So you are saying the reason why Madison didn't win this past season was because they weren't dedicated enough? Or are you saying their recent staff additions are going to increase their dedication?

I could see where bringing people from 1975 or 1988 could seem like moving backwards, but it could also be moving forward. No question, what works well on the field has changed since 1975 and 1988. If you look at Madison in 1975 and Blue Devils in 1976, what worked one year changed the next. Yet if you look at what works off the field to make a champion: team work, hard work, dedication, drive, determination, pursuit of excellence, that never changes, at least in essence. Madison could have the greatest show ever planned for 2019, one that could eclipse not only Madison’s glory, but Cadets in 83-85, PR in 2008, BD in 2014, Crown in 2013, Bloo in 2016, and Star in 1991, but if there is not team building and developing a sense of a common purpose, it won’t work.

This could not be more true in the long lasting Blue Devils team. They can finish each other sentences and hand motions... Common purpose and working together fora long time

Did I say that Madison ws not dedicated and that's why they did not win? No. As a matter of fact there was no mention of last year's show, explicit or implied, or the young people who marched.

Your original comment seems to imply too many alums from 1975 and 1988 are gaining control of the corps. For any corps that can be an issue and it seems that has been at play with Madison over the years. So bringing in alums from the past where so many are saying Madison needs to return to the past can cause concern. That being said, it does also make sense to bring in folks who know the corps and were a part of what made it great.

Nothing wrong with bringing back alumni or people from the past ALTHOUGH bringing back people is 1 thing bringing back the right people is quite a different thing. I've said it a million times knowing ALL the players, to know what works you have to look back as to what doesn't work or has not worked. SOmething stays behind that has pushed good people out.

Well, time will tell so let's enjoy whatever is to come.

Go Scouts, let's be Loud, Proud, and Pleasing the Crowd!

Agree, A willingness to move forward is a good thing and even though some clearly bad choices have been made, Scouts push hard I believe.

One cannot re-write the past, but we can write the future.

In looking at the recent Scout staff additions, I get the feeling alums from 75 and 88 have taken over the corps. Waiting for the announcement on Malagueña. Looking backwards.......moving forward......?

No.  It's all about relationship building. For those that may be poo-pooing the new artistic director before he even gets started, I'm sure that with his decades of experience and contacts he's built some very long and lasting relationships.  Give the Scouts a chance to turn themselves around.

Exactly which relationships are they building? Alums to members? Staff to members? Corps to audience? I'm just saying this seems to be a look backward, but if that is what they feel is right I'm OK with that. When Mason took over there was a definite nod to past Madison glories and going to the "glory days" well worked for them at the time.  This seems to be a repeat. And maybe this is what they feel they need to do to mend fences.  I'm OK with whatever keeps them on the field.
