I think like most corps, they no longer own their buses and instead use charter buses. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks 77.  I thought that they may own that bus in the background of their vehicle storage area.

Does a corps rely on charter companies year round?

Maybe if they're hired to transport other groups to various locations during the off season.  SCV's Winter Guard, out of state casino's?

My assumption is that insurance liability became a huge issue, maintenance gets costly as the fleet ages and also in California it's one of the most expensive states to register a vehicle, coupled with the age of the buses, makes more sense to get rid of the majority of the fleet and use charter buses. In the past, corps would charter their bus fleet to other entities, but who wants to charter a bus from the '80s these days?

Liability and reliability would be reasons in my mind.  Long gone are the days of riding in crappy busses doing the black & blue tour in Texas with no A/C.  All part of MM health and safety as well.  One issue that may be part of leasing and using bus company drivers is the drivers time on the road.  I am guessing that shorter drives between show sites would help minimize that concern.

Is the corps still marching Dynasty percussion this year?  I thought the company stopped producing equipment...

Dynasty got bought by MarchingUSA - they plan to start production again.

Fun Fact: That rig is being driven by an alum who marched SCV from ‘84-‘87, the last two years as their DM.  A great guy who volunteers a lot of time to the corps; our sons marched together in SCVC’s trumpet section from ‘16-‘18.
