Since even when I marched, it's been hard for Cadets to fill even 10 tuba spots so the fact that they have 21 showing up at a camp is an accomplishment in itself.

Really?!?!?! I didn't think it was hard for the Cadets to fill a single spot back that.

In 2000, we were supposed to have 12.

Ya... in 2005 we had 11, I believe.

lol   I think they called it the "Fat 9" as an insurance policy... can't assume you'd finish the season with 10!

So 21 at the camp, huh? That's... AWESOME!

I remember when 8 was a huge tuba/contra line.

RIGHT NOW... There are 55 people signed up for the Leadership Meeting in less than two weeks.

It would be great to get 100+ people there that want to help better this organization now and into the future!

Here is the list of who is attending so far. - https://yea.org/index.php…

Wait. So you were supposed to have 12 but only 10 tubas/contras wanted to march Cadets? I bet there’s a lot of tuba players out there with regret today 🙂

extremely hard - used to send buses to grab folks from the south was the only way to fill the brass line in the 80s

winter of 88/89 was extremely tough - don't think that brass line was full until July

many off seasons in the 90s'/2's they were advertising for tubas into late June

past few years they've filled the ranks via C2

so - yes - 21 tubas at a snowy camp is a VERY big thing for Cadets

In 2006 we had one who didn't play because he was actually a mello player who came in and filled a hole. Good guy ended up aging out on mello in 2007 I believe
