The Cadets 2019

The first order of business for the Cadets is to come off DCI Hg. imposed Probationary status. If things go as hoped and planned, the Probationary status should be lifted sometime in September, with an announcement. That will be good news for all. Cadets, DCI, and Drum Corps fans. DCI needs a strong Cadets, imo. The 2nd order of priority is for a workable, sustainable plan to retire the reported $300,000 current debt hole the Corps is in. With the removal of George Hopkins now, there is an opportunity for Alum sideline sitters to step up to the plate now in both volunteerism and with their anticipated increased large levels of financial donations. Preliminary reports are that this is about to take place. I'm optimistic those preliminary reports come to fruition. Its evident that the next few months are crucial here. Everyone is crossing their fingers that they'll be no legal defense cost issues coming forth regarding the decades long abuses there by George Hopkins. If there are none, this will be huge welcomed good news as well. After  the large debt is retired, YEA/Cadets  will need to build a long term revenue stream that is far better than the one George Hopkins fashioned there, as what worked a decade or so ago in revenue stream generation has to be elevated and improved upon. The Cadets have weathered this past off season in a remarkable manner. That provides cautious optimism that they can continue the current rebuild infrastructure wise in a sustainable manner.  We fans wish them well is these upcoming endeavors.

Let's face it -

GH gone opens a world of possibilities

1. professional/non-emotional decision making is now a possibility

2. a growing base of volunteers is now a possibility

3. keeping one's promises is now a possibility

4. a fresh start vs. burnt bridges is now a possibility

5. recruiting top talent (staff) is now a possibility

6. professional PR & social media is now a possibility

7. wise & experienced executive leadership is now a possibility - even 'visionary leadership' GASP!

8. Good taste is now a possibility! (we are talking about someone who's favorite performer was Barry Manilow)

9. GAAP is now a possibility

10. A great BOD is now a possibility

So many possibilities!!!

You guys need to have a little more faith in alumni instead of worrying about whether or not we will support the organization. Alumni are much more "united" in keeping the corps alive then you all may think.

The alumni that I see are here on DCP and FB which is why I posted what I did. When people start talking about contending next year I kinda roll my eyes. Not saying that they couldn't catch lightning in a bottle but that will be hard when you have a $300K hole to dig out of.

If the alumni where as "united" as you say I guess I question why GH survived as long as he did as director. If I had to guess it was that the alumni were happy with the competitive results more than having a sound organization run by a mentally stable person. That it took the allegations that came out to get the alumni to act on GH is something I find unbelievable. He should have been escorted out the door long ago..... IMHO of course and I'm sure people on here will disagree. The guy was a known bad person even without the allegations of rape and sexual assault and a large chunck of the alumni IMHO were the ones that fostered his ability to prosper.

I'm very happy to see things changed this year. I can't say that I'm happy it took so long for the organization and the alumni as a whole to act.

As far as revenue generation, I think USBands remains a good branch for YEA, which both generates funds for Cadets but also provides an already established framework and system for competitive high school marching band in the region.  According to YEA, they numbers of bands registered this year are substantially at the number from last year, so they don't appear to have taken much of a hit.

I think a USBands with a brand new administration remains a strong draw for bands, and will grow in the future as the new admin moves forward. If they can hold even or close to it this fall, that is a good sign.
