Definitely

Also depends on what those in front of these corps do or more importantly DON"T do. just getting better doesn't guarantee movement or even maintaining. The very top knows this as well as those in 12th 13th 14th 15th. Many who don't make finals improve immensely sometimes.

Yup.  Much harder to attain rather than maintain.  Crown, Boston, Cavies, and Cadets are up for the challenge though.

I'm surprised that Blue Stars and Blue Knights are baked in at 8 & 9 on almost everyone's list!  Things were tight for a while in that pack and the talent levels are similar for many corps.  I think it's a toss up for them, plus the next group which included Crossmen, Spirit, Mandarins, & Phantom .  i'd include Madison  and maybe Academy as well. Which ever of these groups have the best start to the season with a good design and consistent captions will jump ahead. Madison could easily be at the top of this group with a solid show rebound year.

I'm sure with staff changes and all new shows, we will have a reshuffled 8-15 for next season and it will be really exciting!

Madison has put themselves in a difficult position.  As the 16th seeded corps they will be on first or second at most shows and will probably have the least desirable of the DCI tours (CA Tour, Midwest Tour, East Coast/South Tour. Spirit jumped 18th to 13th but can Madison do it also  in 2019?   Madison has to start over so unlike Spirit they have a bigger hill to climb.

They're in a difficult position, yes.  Sounds like there is often disagreement inside at Madison.  It would be great to see them come through it.

There will be an East coast medal sweep:

1. Boston

2. Cadets

3. Crown

Then, at the retreat something derogatory will be said by BAC to BD, or vice versa. A fistfight will ensue, everyone else will jump into it. There will be hundreds jailed and hospitalized. It will be on the evening news, and in 2020 there will be a record number of attendees that have never attended DCI before pushing the audience to over 100,000.

Predictions will be fairly meaningless until rumors are confirmed after September 1.  Though there are the following observations...

BD typically goes undefeated the season after a 2nd place finish.

That being said no one (except BD) has steamrolled the competition since Cadets in 2005 than SCV this year and I would argue Vanguard did it in a more stacked field.

SCV took overall visual performance even with placing behind Boston and BD...we all know how much caption creep there is with guard.

SCV took overall music performance when Crown’s brass was as strong as ever and they had their best percussion section of the last 10 years.

It is easy to think that Vanguard has reset the balance of power in DCI...especially with winning their first Ott trophy in 30+ years.  Yes BD was young this year but suddenly there are many more attractive options...

Vanguard and Coats are obvious

BAC needs another year or two of maturity in their programming and are solid across the board

Cavies over programmed this year but are very solid in all captions

Cadets will surge sooner than people think if the rumors are true

Crown...at the top musically but visually rough this year...don’t think it will get any easier next year

True, but doubtful that the judge/jury will give a crap when the unthinkable happens.

Well a lawsuit can be brought by just about anyone for anything.  It is up to the court to determine if there is merit.  That being said, there is certainly a concern about some of the prop use we have been seeing lately, are inherently more dangerous that others.  Elevated platforms are for one.  Tarps are not as dangerous, in the sense there wouldn't necessarily be a traumatic injury resulting from a fall that would  might get with a fall off a Bluecoats chair for example (only an example BC fans don't freak out).  The same is true of some BD stairs/props a beastly teeter totter and so on.

We may be arriving at a point where proposed props that fall into a category such as these (elevated, kinetic) or the MM's use of a prop (run up a ramp and dive into the arms of other MM's, backflips off of elevated props, need to be previewed by a DCI Risk Management team to ascertain the danger to MM's and the liability that may result in a traumatic and permanent injury, that would be borne by an organization.  Would a corps insurers (do the have liability insurance against MM, staff or admin injuries?) accept the liability/risk?  Tarps used the way Boston and Mandarins used them have a very low, if any, MM risk; versus Cavaliers and Blue Stars use of them (as proved out).  Some corps might be reluctant to bring visibility to a "secret' prop so to speak, but the risk may outweigh the surprise.

WGI has already visited this and established new protocols and policy.  Since DCI designers of late seem to be mini-WGIers, will DCI follow or are the designers rebelling against WGI?

I agree with this and the maturity I believe will come with recruitment of more talent.  Guard certainly will be able to recruit the best as that's what happens when you are as successful as they are.  Brass and Percussion will obtain better talent as both areas stepped up their game this year and are on the verge of breaking out and having the credibility they are working towards.  Boston's brass IMO was underrated this year.  when you listen to what they play and the quality of how the perform, they are right there and the numbers were showing that as well, just a bit behind.  Percussion I think are viewed much the same as the brass.

Yes, this makes sense. I said this a couple of years ago. I see California dominance coming again for several years in taking the gold. The only other organization that can possibly compete with the West coast would be Blue Coats.

These things though have always gone in cycles. While BD is like a DCI All Stars Drum Corps and can be expected to contend every season as such, no region of the Country has ever really dominated Titles. ( besides BD ) All 4 regions of the Country has a Rep. Corps win them every few years. This could the West Coast time once again. But it won't last long, imo, even if its currently true. These things rarely do. ( " Bluecoats" is one word, by the way)
