Blue Knights 11. PR 12. Spirit 13. Crossmen 14. Academy Edit: I feel like it's going to be incredibly close this year. I could see SCV breaking away early. I could also see this year having the most corps in the hunt for the championship than we've seen in a long time. I think it's going to come down to the wire this year (I hope!). I really want to see things too close to call where any of the top 4-5 corps could realistically win on any given night. Cant remember the exact details or who was involved, but the average has been around since then to remove the ultimate power that one judge has. Hell that's why they started to Double panel GE finals night in DCI & WGI because the biases that one judge might have are reduced when their score is quartered in the final tally. There are still strong biases that exist today where no matter what happens on the field you know that this judge will have this corps in first when they judge... I hadn't heard about the scandal in the 2000s. Today - is it outright bias or a differing of opinion? I'm ok with the latter. I do think herd-judging mentality is a concern. Corps should be moving a round a bit more, placement wise, within their grouping, but that rarely happens. I do think, by and large, the judges do get it right. I don't think there's a single year I would argue that a champion wasn't worthy of being a champion, but with most of those years, I could make arguments as to why 1 or 2 other corps were also worthy of being a champion. But, I am not a qualified judge, so I defer to those who are. Whether it's outright bias or differing opinion, it still doesn't make sense. If DCI is so concerned that one judge can skew the caption awards but not concerned one judge can change the outcome of the champion, then that is just silly. I would much rather them get the champion right than the high brass winner. When I won my championship, I didn't give two craps that we didn't win my caption. I'd have rather finished 53rd (or whatever the lowest possible placement was) in my caption and 1st overall, then 1st in my caption and 2nd overall.
