Attended a funeral mass for friends mom and found out an ex roommate from college passed. Journalism major who became a priest. Rutherford specifically states that there was no report of misconduct while he was a YEA/Cadets2 employee. Were there accusations of something more here from some other source? If not, it seems like YEA must already have something pretty close to the zero-tolerance policy that so many people online are calling for in DCI. Read in another source that he was accused of being in chat rooms where child porn is passed around. Think it was in one of the links but not sure which one. Now, even though the news has tried to get the correct information out, the player is still being ostracized by the public as a "star player beating the system" or "getting off due to back door deals." Despite the evidence, he is still guilty to many people for a crime he didn't commit. My point....where does public knowledge start, institutional privy begin, and where does legal rights begin? I don't know the answer. I realize this isn't apples to apples. But is there information that should only be available to employers (who have proved at times to not use the info correctly) or is the information so important to the public that people be ostracized with no hope of possible correction with facts? Gosh, I don't know. I hear the arguments. I hear the torture of the victims. Its so frustrating that people in trust positions have failed, both as employers and as people committing criminal acts. My Dad taught in a school where a student lied about her lost pregnancy and blamed a teacher for the paternity. It was all over the papers and the man's reputation was ruined. When the tests finally came back, he was proven 100 per cent innocent, but the newspapers never reported that. He had to move to a different State to regain life for him and his family. He had failed her on a math test, or rather she failed herself, and thus did not qualify for a school ski trip. I taught at a school where a similar situation befouled the reputation of a veteran gym teacher doing spotting as junior high kids learned to use the pommel horse. Accusations of inappropriate touching of one student who later admitted that he lied to get back at the teacher who had given him demerits for failing to bring proper materials to school class. The grandmother cancelled the kid's Disney trip. Newsday had the story at the beginning for 5 days but printed the retraction 6 months later at the bottom of p. 104 under the classified and obit notices. The teacher died of a stroke having lost his career. There is also one case in 1980's drum corps where a volunteer discovered a drug selling ring between a nationally well known instructor and several corps members. Two of the instructor's friends went to jail as a result. Twenty years later the nephew of the drug dealer made a bogus claim against the volunteer and went public with it; the variance in surnames never alerted the volunteer to be wary. The volunteer was banned from drum corps tours although the police later rescinded the charges and record. The corps has since neither apologized nor welcomed that person claiming safety first despite the truth. Maybe the moral is you never can tell even by being around a person. Have a distant in law who we’d see few times a year (usually when he’d mooch a holiday meal). Lazy sack, kind of sorry for himself but ok to be around as had a funny personality. He missed a few holidays and found out he was in prison on child porn charges. Jaw dropper to say the least. He got out and back in again for a few years. Worked with an IT contractor who was always top of his game and professional.
