Imagine that, people going into a corps thread and being negative about the corps get a negative response!

The individual in question is slick and manipulative. If he gets released from Genesis; he will, more-than-likely, end up somewhere else.

....  its possible.  But then we'll all read about it in the media once again, and once again DCI Drum Corps gets embarrassed.

Two things are most likely to happen here, imo... 1) DCI really gets its act together and rids themselves of high risk, low trustworthy, hires.. or 2) there becomes a drip, drip, drip, of embarrassing revelations in DCI Drum Corps. I suppose the long term prognosis here is that DCI itself gets to decide what sort of organization they want to become in the future. One that has summer tour environment that is safe for youth, or one where the national media creates the national perception that DCI Drum Corps is an environment made too safe for adults with checkered pasts with youth.

And that is because... ?

And we prevent that by... ?

Fair questions.

About the only way it's prevented is by someone who knows/discovers/finds out someone like this is involved with an organization again speaking up and speaking out. It means going to the people in charge of these organizations and confronting them- telling them you'll go public about this unless this is immediately dealt with. Seen it work twice.

The more this happens, one can only hope that the individuals in charge of these organizations make the decision that hiring people with these backgrounds isn't a good idea and will stop it.

I think it is already happening, the activity is moving in the right direction. Some corps were just slower than others to catch on to the seriousness of the situation. Dci is still handling some lingering fall out from days past. There may be other corps still behind the eight ball things that surface and deserve some flogging. The corps in question and all corps will be better than before, it will be a new day,

Part of it is, as has been alluded to on a related thread, the lack of degrees of separation/in-house/good ol'boy network prevalent in the activity in general.

People thinking "Well I marched with them, they marched here... we can provide a second chance..."  when really there are a plethora of highly qualified and capable individuals out there that can do the job as well or better that don't carry this baggage. But, I note most groups truly don't feel that way or think that way at this point.

Everyone deserves a second chance and maybe new by-laws if they come can leave some wiggle room. How they prove themselves, in what environment do they prove themselves? Most of the baggage came from working in a school in the daytime. If new rules do go there? Proving themselves is not jumping on the nightshift with minors and hoping for the best.

Common sense says it should be years of proof, doing the right thing. Also dci can have its own qualified guidance counsel that plays a role in hiring these individuals. Right now dci seems the only option left for some to keep working in their profession. Something that is easy to change, close the loopholes, set bars on acceptance and feel good about it..
