2018 Drum Corps Associates World Championships Finals Competition - Williamsport, Pennsylvania

Recommended Posts

In that great journey of the stars through space, about the mighty, all directing sun, the palid, faithful moon has been the one companion of the earth.

Opening narration before the pit plays the intro to Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me. First of five props reveals the sun at its fullest. Trumpet soloist plays the opening line of Here Comes the Sun.

Company front at half time and the full horn line comes in.

Excellent horn sound from top to bottom! I especially love that tuba sound at the bottom of the foundation.

Second panel reveals the moon beginning to cross in front of the sun. Drum feature, very well executed.

Trumpets exhibiting some strong double tonguing skills.

Mellos sneak in a little Here Comes the Sun quote into the music. Nice bit of arranging.

Third panel reveals the totality. We are in total eclipse of the sun (not the heart).

Baritone and trumpet duet on side two. One of the guard members is wearing a black shroud, symbolizing our shadow, as well as the shadow cast on the earth by the eclipse.

Nice laid back tempo for this movement. The guard takes the black shroud and pulls it taught, forming the eclipse on the field. They, in yellow, are the sun's corona around the moon's silhouette.

As we move beyond totality, Here Comes the Sun plays in the pit and the fourth panel is revealed. Sabers have yellow streamers on their tips, like the rays of the sun peaking from around the moon as it moves out of the way.
