DCI shouldn't have to speak on behalf of Fred. Fred should speak up

I would think that current MMs and / or their parents deserve a response.  But DCP forums is not the place for THAT conversation to occur.   But we might hear abt it after the fact

DCI finds itself in a position where for the first time EVER, they are being held accountable for not only having rules, but actually enforcing them. To go back on their original decision now kills their credibility

Strongly disagree.  They badly damaged their credibility in the way they chose to interpret and enforce the rules.  No one was crying out for them to take this action.  Practically everyone saw the statement as positive rather than disparaging.

Handling the matter reasonably and quietly would have not have hurt their credibility to any significant extent.  Handling it the way they did has further damaged their credibility.  Acknowledging they made a bad decision and correcting that decision would do wonders for their credibility.

Everyone makes mistakes.  It's what we do about them that defines our character.

Sure, there are plenty of terrible, disgusting, mortally bankrupt humans out there.

In my belief system, it is 100%, as in all humans, who fall into those categories. There are none who are righetous, no not one. However In someone else's belief system, possibly yours, it is 70/30 or 50/50 or 20/80 as it apples to moral deprivation and definitions thereof. So who in that case defines 'morality'? You? Me? Majority in a society? And which society is correct when the behaviors of morality are vastly different from culture to culture? That is why the 'laws' set forth by humans are to be completely amoral.

True. There is no obligation for DCI to say anything at all about any findings in an investigatory newspaper piece that states some very disparaging things about one of their current Corps Directors. They exercised that right to clam up on it. Readers are then left with how they prefer to assess a very, very, serious charge, with no rebuttal to it.

the article offered no more proof that someone said they saw a receipt in the past.  not hard proof

There you go again stating obvious things that everyone already knows.

They chose to because they're getting dragged on social media. Period.

Right, and they'll continue to be dragged throughout the summer. People have already discussed handing out flyers in the lot and other such methods of protest. Stuff like that will be organized on social media this summer if Dan doesn't step down. Count on it.

Eventually maybe it leads to a sponsor being pulled. Maybe awareness builds and someone gets investigated for criminal negligence! Maybe nothing happens at all this summer, and it takes years to finally build into something real. The conversation taking place now is step 1 of that process though.

Now I'm saying a bunch of things that should be obvious too, but alas.

anything prior to April, DCI can't be held liable for, because nothing in their rules and bylaws called for this to be something on their radar...it feel to the individual corps. Since April, then yes, some criminal negligence is possible if something happened.

and at this stage, it would have to be huge for sponsors to pull since they haven't yet

"God bless Captain Vere!" Read the book Billy Budd, or watch the Terence Stamp movie adaptation. It deals directly with the confllict of law, morality, right, wrong, and whether or not a decision is correct or incorrect. At the end, Billy states those words with both belief and internal peace, and I completely agree with him.

The Arsenal BoD posted a response on the corps' Facebook page. It reads as sort of an apology to DCI and they attempt to distance themselves form the former Arsenal Director's statements.

well written.

Attn: Members, Staff, Auditionees, Volunteers, Supporters

The Board of Directors met last night and decided that we will continue moving on the path that our Founder/Former Corps Director started. We will always be grateful to him for the dedication, hard work, sacrifice and opportunity he gave to Arsenal Performing Arts and its members. That said, we will be fielding a SoundSport Team this summer. We have some logistics to work out, but we as a board are dedicated to you on making this a positive and memorable experience. Details about camps and auditions will be coming very soon. All previous callbacks and contracts of current members/auditionees will be honored for the 2019 Season. Please give us a little time so we can work out the details of how we will proceed as a Drum Corps.

Thank you for your continued support!

Agree, the receipt is questionable at best so maybe he should still be on the BOD no hard proof and Fred is off the hook. Fred's dumpster fire should be of little concern when the buildings are on fire. IMO to save dci right now. To point the ship in the right direction they need to reinstate Arsenal is there any way that could be supported on DCP. Or are we a bunch of hardnoses that don't consider the kids.

Wasn't DCI's response to Tricia yesterday that they would have a response out later that day?  Yet here we are, no additional response.  Any good PR person knows that appearances matter and being IN FRONT of things is super important.  Before too long, they're going to have people standing outside HQ waiting for answers.  Oh the tangled webs we weave.
