My father's niece ended up marching with the "Bananamen" as he called them.

And a good number of us that are active here probably fall into the "geezer" category. My last year in drum corps before coming back to DCA was 1991. I don't necessarily agree with all the changes that have come since I first started watching in 1983. But I also don't think I'm in a position to judge the direction of the activity.

Bunch of clowns grumble grumble.... Yet the opener was a modified starting line move playing one of St Andrews greatest hit if I was told right....

Of course we both know what Reading looked like 3 years later :sigh:

Which reminds me.. should have heard the complaints when Reading played slow part of Dies Ires(?). Very slow, melodic with a Ritchee Price high wail solo... that ain't drum corps to some in 1974.

Yep took a ten year break in 90s due to real life and don't follow like I used to. I know what I like and if it's not there I don't break a sweat over it. No fuss no muss and no slamming different opinions

Yep... the "old starting line" opening move was genius. Another Bobby Hoffman classic.

And the tune... William Tell Overture.... Bridgemen did it in 1973 (a bit of a different version).

Same here... except I go back to 1967.  LOL. A nine-year-old in the stands, watching my older brothers in their first year of drum corps.

Whether I agree or disagree with elements of today's drum corps... it's their time now (meaning the current crop of marching members), and they are the ones keeping the whole thing alive, so good for them.  Not sure why anyone at all would have a problem with that.

Lordy, Lordy.  I remember standing on the street waiting for the parade in NYC for AL Nationals in 1976.  I looked down the street, saw the Bridgemen and said “Who in the hell is that?”   I loved them.

I saw them in their first performance with the new look, at their home show in June 1976.  Coming down the street behind a police escort... when they entered the stadium in Bayonne that night, the reaction from the audience was much the same as the one you had!!!  LOL

Gotta be honest... it took me a bit to fully warm up to their new look and style. It was at the 1977 National Dream Contest at Roosevelt Stadium where I finally bought in totally. Bridgemen tore the house down that afternoon. I thought they were gonna win the DCI title after seeing them that day.  That was a great drum corps.

We were so used to St.Andrews.  It was an adjustment.

LOL!!!

Heck... the change in 1976 saved the corps.  They were toast after 1975, until the new approach and new staff. (Bobby, Dennis, etc.)

Honestly, I'm not sure why I never really gave a thought to marching with Bridgemen, since I had Bayonne roots as part of the family tree. My mom, aunt and two uncles grew up there, and I had various relatives all over town.  LOL.
