BigW
In another direction, I think many would pick the 1980 finals as perhaps "ultimate", and not because of the date or era, because pretty much the top 5 were very, very tight, and all had some great ideas and moments. It wasn't a forgone conclusion when everyone sat down as many championships are. I'll have to get back to the ultimate picks for me... Rather interesting idea.

All 12 corps were terrific... and like you said, the outcome was in doubt. Four corps with a legit chance to win.

That show was pretty tough! The only thing against them was the ones ahead were just a bit better in certain aspects.

They really brought their A-plus game. Amazing performance. I've said this before on other forums, but knowing what I know now, I kinda wish 27th Lancers had won... because, as it turned out, it was their last, best chance to win a DCI title. (Still a great corps in 1981, but not quite as close to the top.) Sad that they never got that championship ring, considering their overall impact on the drum corps activity for many years. To this day, 1987 Sky Ryders are my favorite 12th-place corps ever. The two slam dunks for my "ultimate finals" list would be them in 12th, and 2014 Blue Devils at the top. The rest in between.... tough to decide. LOL.
ThePlanets
my Ultimate Finals: (going to limit this to one show per corps) Venue: Buffalo NY Weather: Clear skies to partly cloudy skies. 79 degrees at 700 PM, calm wind, 35% humidity, 70 degrees by 1130. Before the Show - Future Corps outside the stadium 7:00pm - National Anthem - US Marine Drum & Bugle Corps 7:06pm - 2018 U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps (Exhibition) 7:30pm - 1992 Velvet Knights 7:47pm - 1976 Blue Devils 8:04pm - 1991 Star of Indiana 8:21pm - 2014 Blue Knights 8:38pm - 1980 Spirit of Atlanta 8:55pm - 2018 Santa Clara Vanguard 9:12pm - Intermission - Bridgemen Alumni Corps 9:35pm - 2010 Cavaliers 9:52pm - 1988 Madison Scouts 10:09pm - 2015 Carolina Crown 10:26pm - 2015 Bluecoats 10:43pm - 1996 Phantom Regiment 11:00pm - 2000 Cadets 11:25pm - 2006 Madison Scouts Alumni Corps (Exhibition) scores announced and the Bluecoats jump from 3rd to first and the top 12 are the closest in scores in DCI history. I am delighted that they have heady topper on tap at the stadium and I watch a kinetic noise encore. And just for the heck of it here is the semis order from the night before 200 PM 2002 Seattle Cascades 217 PM 2001 Colts 234 PM 2012 Jersey Surf 251 PM 2016 Crossmen 308 PM 1980 27th Lancers 325 PM 1997 Mandarins 342 PM 2018 Music City 429 PM 1985 Suncoast Sound 446 PM 2011 Blue Stars 503 PM 1973 Troopers 520 PM 2016 Academy 537 PM 1980 Bridgemen 554 PM 2017 Boston Crusaders Edited March 7, 2019 by ThePlanets Took a shower and was thinking about my ultimate semis
Weaklefthand4ever
Here's my Ultimate Finals: Venue: Mercedes Benz Stadium - Atlanta, GA Weather: Wouldn't matter much now would it?!? Before the Show - Future Corps outside the stadium 7:00pm - National Anthem - Al Chez 7:06pm - 2000 U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps (Exhibition) 7:30pm - 1992 Crossmen 7:47pm - 1980 Spirit of Atlanta 8:04pm - 1980 Bridgemen 8:21pm - 2004 Cavaliers 8:38pm - 1993 Star of Indiana 8:55pm - 1995 Madison Scouts 9:12pm - Intermission - Beer, beer and more beer. Maybe some beer 9:35pm - 2016 Bluecoats 9:52pm - 1987 Garfield Cadets 10:09pm - 2013 Carolina Crown 10:26pm - 2017 Blue Devils 10:43pm - 2008 Phantom Regiment 11:00pm - 2018 Santa Clara Vanguard 11:25pm - 1994 27th Lancers Alumni Corps (Exhibition) 11:47pm - Full Corps Retreat followed by each corps playing their corps song I HAD to throw changing the venue to Atlanta in there. The stadium (if you haven't been yet) is pretty #### phenomenal and just for Jeff, they have the Jack Daniels Neighborhood Bar. I can't argue with this lineup though. I loved the thought of Future Corps playing outside the stadium.
