A show with some musical space is so refreshing. And the way the percussion tapers in and out........that’s mouthwatering. And yup, colorguard already looks way better and effectively staged this year. This is gonna be a good season for them. Is Liquid a Jay Bocook original? Not an arrangement of something? That’s one of the more catchy and exciting original things to come out of drum corps if so from Cadets in 2005. I was a little hmm when I saw it was being used again but this is a very fresh take on it. As a drum guy, you're going to find the percussion in the ballad to be very, very tasty. Some really cool thunder-in-the-distance effects by the battery. I cant' speak to the individual talent/skills of the guard, but from what I've seen so far this season at rehearsals, they are at least more . . . . prominent? integrated? visible? . . . . than what I remember of last season. But I'm out of my depth here. My understanding is that "Liquid" is an arrangement by Bocook/Shaw/Jackson. Whereas Cadets kind of eased into it in 2005, the 2019 BK version is more of a frontal attack. EDIT: Liquid is, in fact, a Bocook composition, performed by Cadets in 2005, according to DCX, which further says it is "based on" Equis [sic] by Eric Whitacre. The song title actually is Equus (Spotify link here). DCX says Whitacre's Equus has been performed by Capital Regiment (2006); Oregon Crusaders (2006); Spirit of Atlanta (2008); Colt Cadets (2014); Reading Buccaneers (2016); and White Sabers (2017). Like one second they’re beating you up and taking your wallet and the next they’re saying sorry giving it back and being really chill. The range of emotion and intensity the play with is just jaw dropping. They’re the most musically interesting line for a few years now, at least to me. 1

brians
I would like to know how it is that the Blue Knights basically are the last top 12 corps to be on the road, have a competition, and about week more quality prep/practice time to get their show up and ready vs everyone else? Lots of corps used to come out a week or two after everyone else. My Early years of Boston (2000, 2002) there would be shows in the Midwest since the second week of June and we wouldn't have our first show until the last week of June. With the Premiere show that DCI has created in recent years the timeline have all pushed up but for BK, they practice in Colorado, there are no shows in Colorado so early so Its either spend a lot of money to get out to the West Coast, or stay put and polish your show... Downside is you don't have an many performance opportunities and you don't have early season feedback from the judging community, but if you got the goods you probably already know where you'd fall. Poppycock
I'm expecting a better than average BK, which means they won't be part of the fight to just get into finals.

In recent times, top 12 corps coming out a week or two after everyone else is simply not true... and surely not true this year. Since their first show of the season this year is in Vista California, I guess I don't understand why they could have been out in California and participated in the earlier California shows as all the other top west coast corps did. A week in drum corps is an eternity .....especially when it comes to being able to simply stay put and polish your show.. Hmmmmm

You've gotten me very excited to hear this year's edition of the Blue Knights for sure!

Because the recruiting base for the Blue Knights, especially the Denver area, ends school very late. So it is difficult for the corps to gather all their members for spring training. BK has been coming into the season late pretty often this past decade and other corps like Oregon Crusaders struggle with the same
