Drum corps horn in the wild

Recommended Posts

You don't often see drum corps-specific instruments outside of the marching arts, but jazz musician Reginald Chapman has a System Blue tuba customized in raw brass by the BAC Horn Dr., pretty neat. He's a boss on bass trombone and bass trumpet

Anyway I just thought some might find that cool

Does it affect the sound of the instrument, or purely cosmetic? Very, very curious.

Warmer sound? It seems to be a thing with many pro French horn players.

Not sure, I’m not a brass player (though I did play one in a few drum corps shows)

I now Red Brass makes a difference... I wish Meinl-Weston would have built the prototype rotary Euphonium I played made of it. Light weight but really dark. It looks like the Brass player's equivalent of a Rat Rod... I dig it.

Talked to a Cadets Tuba player about a year ago, he said the parts were carefully written to avoid the use of the 4th valve, usually written higher to avoid it, which I found interesting.
