The Cadets/YEA is not the only non profit organization that has dealt with abuse of power or abuse of power that has involved sexual misconduct or other criminal activity. Private schools, religious organizations, youth organizations, non profits in the medical field, and no doubt a host of others have discovered removing the person causing the problem stops the bleeding at best, cleaning up the mess created is far more difficult, and that’s my major point. To be drum corps specific, I would agree Cadets overhaul is unique and if there has been a similar overhaul, I have never heard about it. Pioneer’s dysfunction is a case all its own. All I can say for certain regarding Oregon Crusaders is I could sense tension last summer which is at best speculative. However in the history of drum corps, there have been ego maniac directors who have done more harm than good, and corps that have had “financial problems” that the problem was embezzlement. The Bonfiglio family was 27 but even a storied, very traditional corps had the ability to change and boy did they change. I think their Sondheim show was one of the most radical departures in drums corps history.
