I miss the old (NEW DRUMS) thread.

I used to work for a custom drum builder (Ward Wilson of Wilson Customs) and covering drums was a pain. Granted, covering is far more simple than actual finish (and MUCH safer health wise,) but it still takes time. I kinda dig on the new covers. I wish we had them back in the mid/late 80's and early 90's.

with the digital technologies available, it's getting to be like with flags and tarps/floors

If the shell were the right size, I could actually cut inlay on it using the cnc mill. Maybe one day, someone will be silly enough to spend 1K inlaying a drum shell. 😂😂😂😂

I heard Cavies had the best looking drum finish/designs again this year. Then again air said it out loud.

All joking aside, I am excited to see everyone's drum finishes/designs.

Then again it could be, as he himself would joke, a plain finish with an enlarged upclose head shot of the Old Man (RIP.)

Very pretty. You can do a lot with maple and birch or beech. I literally have pallets of curly maple and rosewood. Drum manufacturers have the added benefit of getting absolute consistency in their raw product. Those are some beautiful drums.
