Minnesota Brass Returns To Soundsport In 2019

On Tuesday May 21 the Minnesota Brass board of directors decided to compete in DCI’s Soundsport instead of DCA for the 2019 Season. The reasons for this are: To create a performance venue whereby smaller groups can sound fuller. Increase the quality by having a shorter performance length. Foster creativity for the design by incorporating […]

Kudos to Minnesota Brass for addressing the elephant in the room. See ya at Soundsport.  My season also will end on August 10th.

Sorry to see them leave DCA... one of the circuit's best for decades now... but glad they're still in the game. They need to do what they feel is best for their organization.

Best wishes to MBI from here on out!!!

Yes, and the problem is then, cutting a week off the back end since all the weeks have been cut off the front end due to Indoor. Are the corps going to design differently to compensate? Loaded question. Something tells me no, and the end result would be sub-par. I also have a hunch it would make another issue worse.

My question is, " what should DCA do about Labor Day"?  Some organizations aren't excited about making changes.  Many would rather stay the course to prove people wrong, then give in to the masses despite hurting the activity in the long term.

I think the change should likely be made, but I also see problems with the consequences of that. I think in some ways it will be a lose-lose decision either way. Less corps, etc. if it stays, and sub-par shows the other way because people won't adjust the design and rehearsals to compensate. To go further, it may swing the advantage to near 100% insurmountable to one team that seems to be able to solve all of those issues and think through them on another level from everyone else.
