2muchcoffeeman
I don't understand the purpose of the agonizing uniform reveal. I don't get the whole "reveal" concept generally. I mean, it's one thing to get your uniforms designed, made, put on some of the members, take some photos and throw them online -- or not. If corps either posted photos of their uni, or decided to reveal them only at their first performance, I wouldn't think about it one way or the other. What I don't get is the tease. The drips and drabs. The tight crops of a belt buckle. The glimpse of a sleeve. The smoke. The backlighting. The slo-mo camera pans. The drama. Do they do this only for our little world of insiders? The drum corps junkies? Has someone determined a correlation between the degree of mystery over a uniform and a corps' competitive success? Or is this just Marketing 101?

Simply stated I think it’s the people involved taking things way too serious. 4

It's just so we can have more #####ing on the boards. 1
Fran Haring
The best "uniform reveal" I can remember during my years with drum corps was in June of 1976... when the Bridgemen, with a police escort out front, came marching down the street and into Bayonne's Veterans Stadium with their new "banana coat" uniforms. For those of us in attendance that night, when those unis came into full view under the stadium lights... it was epic. This was definitely not your father's Bridgemen. I'm of the thought that the reveal teases are primarily aimed at the corps' alumni and loyal fans; a way to generate a little extra excitement and anticipation. Personally I don't mind it at all. Provides a bit of fun while waiting for the season to step off.

A LOT of "That is not drum corps" type of comments (with NSFW commentary thrown in!) from old-timers of that era. Today they are considered one of the great corps of all time. I loved them, and their 76 show was amazing.

LOL I first saw them in 76 at the AL nationals parade in NYC. I said who the heck is that? Of course, I’d seen St .Andrews but wow! The difference. Gotta be honest, It took me a bit to warm up to their new style... but I eventually did, and their performance at the 1977 Dream contest in Jersey City put me firmly in their corner. They were absolutely unbelievable at that show. Heh.... I get a kick out of some of the posters on the various "old-time drum corps" pages on FB, who when seeing pictures of the Bridgemen from that era, say "now THAT'S real drum corps!!!"... when some of those same folks were the ones trashing the corps in 1976.
