What is your favorite 5th place show?

I think I will have a unique/unpopular answer to this question.

I will also give the disclaimer that my exposure is limited before 2000.

The past 10 years have really been excellent for 5th place shows and I often find my favorite or second favorite show of the year landing at 5th place.

My answer is the only 5th place show that makes my top 10 all time...and I watched/listened to a few other 5th place and a few of my other all time favorites and I kept coming back to this show.

2015 Santa Clara Vanguard- the Spark of Invention- its all there interesting music and drill/visuals from start to finish and one of,IMO, the best soloists in DCI history. I am just into it from start to finish

Here are some others that I absolutely love:

2017 Bluecoats Jagged Line

2014 Carolina Crown Out of This World

2005 Bluecoats Caravan

Gotta go with 2000 Boston Crusaders.  A breakout year for them. Fantastic show.

And an old-school sleeper pick... 1975 Blue Stars. Cool show, great visual book by Bobby Hoffman.

Boston was magical that night in College Park.

Blue Stars wrote out Chicago like the band on the field in concert.  Pretty cool.

Some of my Favorites coming in at 5th place:

  • 1998 Glassmen Dreams of Gold
  • 2000 Boston Crusaders RED
  • 2005 Bluecoats Caravan
  • 2008 Cadets ...and the pursuit of happiness [I know that show got a lot of flack on here at the time, I enjoyed the musical book and the killer drill at the end]
  • 2009 SCV Ballet for Martha
  • 2011 Phantom Juliet (spectacular music book)
  • 2014 Out of This World
  • 2015 SCV Spark of Invention
  • 2018 Boston SOS

Top Favorite goes to 2011 PR's Juliet. Classic Phantom, phenomenal music, and a beautiful show where the phantomettes shine. I often find myself humming that East of Eden opener.

HM's 1994 SCV The Red Poppy; 1995 PR Adventures Under a Darkened Sky; 2007 SCV !(Eureka); 2010 Cadets Toy Souldier; 2012 SCV Music of the Starry Night

I love Glassmen’s 1998 Borodin show, just great drill and music.   I really like all their 5th place shows.

If I had to pick one though I love Bluecoats 2005 Caravan show.  Really fun.  Also loved Jagged Line, that show was a blast as well.

HM for 2016 Cavaliers.

....and for 2011 Phantom Regiment.

I love seeing Glassmen '98 mentioned so many times. Awesome music.

Was the 2013 Coats show the Americana one? If so that is easily up there. I LOOOOOOVE that dang show.
